My great granny told the family that her father John William (or William John) Rowland, was in the Irish Guards..

The Irish Guards weren't formed until 1900

I've got 2 Hodge/ Hodges from Charlton Adam, Eliza b abt 1810, married George Pitman & Mary b 1752 married Robert Shugar or Sugar,  also some Hockeys from Kingsdon, spitting distance from Charlton Adam, any ties?

I have Pitman and Hockey in my tree  right area,  from John Hockey b 1760 and Adam Pitman b 1690 but none of the names mentioned on here

Hutted camps were put up at various places around Crowborough in WW1, used for training, then hospitals and POW camps, Same uses again in WW2. I remember a hutted camp where the Horder centre is now, in use by the Rheumatism & Arthritis Assoc (or similar) in the 1970s. The cadet camp was modernised in the 70's or 80s, a lot of the wooden huts pulled down & replaced with brick buildings.
