As the author of this topic shall we call it a day. I only wanted to express my experience out pure frustration and see what others had to say. I've taken on board what has been said and thank every single one of you for taking the time and trouble to reply. Thank you, David

Absolutely, Fisherman, I've talked and explained 'til I'm blue in the face and it has not made one iota of difference. In the end I, too, have had to walk away and hope one day the other person involved will do the maths, realise the error of their ways and finally make the amendments that required. Great shame as we share common ancestors and all I want is for it to be correct. Thanks again for everyone's input.

Thanks to all for your replies. As you say greenrig it is probably best not to bother. I just find it so frustrating that some so-called researchers can stick rigidly to what is so blindingly and obviously wrong, dates which can be decades and in some cases entered in a different century!!

In pursuing a family tree for a friend recently I have countenance some birth dates that are completely false in relationship to the couple involved. I have tried, without success, to get the person who has entered the details to understand the error of their ways. The website involved is the Family Search (LDS) where I have found numerous anomalies some of which I have been able to amend. You will appreciate the importance of correct dates and the implications they can have if incorrect. Hope you can give some advice. Many thanks, David

I am helping a friend with her tree and she has shown me a death cert dated 1919 of a Thomas Flannery who she understand is him but now you have come up with the 1939 England/Wales Register that obviously sheds a different light on things.

I have also seen sight of Alfred Flannery's birth cert of 1924 showing his father as Alfred James Flannery.

Are you able to provide details of the household on the 1939 Register?

Hi JJ and thank you very much for your replies. First off, sorry my original post did state Clara erroneously, hence, the change to Grace.

I have not seen a Census to show any relationship between Thomas & Alfred although I understand Thomas's death was recorded at Beeston, Nottinghamshire.

If you or anyone else could check the 1891 or 1901 Censuses I would be very grateful.

Grace did go onto marry Harry Hardwick and then in 1961 Harry's brother William

Daughter of Benjamin White, Clara wa born 1898, married Thomas Flannery at Coleford in 1916. Thomas died in 1919.

Grace went on to have a son Alfred Flannery b 1924 recorded at St Pancras, London. Father's name listed as Alfred James Flannery but no marriage of Grace to Alfred James can be found. Can anyone offer any help, please?

I wonder if Alfred James was a brother or cousin of Thomas? Perhaps she didn't marry Alfred James at all and Alfred was born out of wedlock.

Hi Diane and thanks for your message. I too have found numerous spellings of this family name. My research began with my mother-in-law, Mary Duroe, who hailed from Chesterfield. Going back her line goes to Hasland, Hulland Ward and Bradley near Ashbourne. So far I have located over 60 members of this line but haven't got any further back than Samuel Duroe b 1805 who married Mary Pool at Duffield in 1837. I guess there are links somewhere that ties up these various branches. David
