The Common Room / Re: How to find a Princesse?
« on: Saturday 21 July 07 10:26 BST (UK)  »
The child was Henry Langlois and his parents were Daniel and Jeanne Langlois.  I have a feeling that they were the parents of Pierre Langlois the commode maker - he certainly had some high powered people amongst his customers in the mid 1700s and I suppose it is possible that they had a prior connection with his family.  At this stage though it is pure surmise.

There were other siblings of this family - Gedeon and Anne Marie for instance but their witnesses were much less salubrious - mainly French names.

Just to add to your dilemma if you are still interested - Sarah Ellen Payne's father was a Jabez so there is every chance that they named one of their kids after him.  All I know is William Rutterford died in Wood Ditton.

The Common Room / How to find a Princesse?
« on: Saturday 21 July 07 08:40 BST (UK)  »
Not quite sure where this one should go!

I have a birth record being witnessed by one Leopoldine, Princess de Haremberg (sic) in July 1723 in London.  Also witnessing this birth was Henry, Lord St John (sic) who could possibly have been Henry St John, Earl of Bolingbroke who would have been returning from a sort of exile about that time.  This was a Hugenot family, not particularly well known as far as I could gather.

Anyone got any ideas about how I could find this Princesse - googling hasnt given me much to go on!

I have quite a few errant Langlois relatives who would have died sometime during this period in the Marylebone area.  Does anyone know if there are there any online databases which may be useful for me?

Thanks

Barbara, you are a star!!!  Yes indeed, that would be them.  Her name was actually Harriet (Harriott) Ann so no wonder I was having trouble finding her as that!  She wasnt a widow either, her husband was living it up with a woman 20 years his junior about 5 streets away!! I guess she didnt tell her daughter that either as she was listed as a widow on her death certificate too.

Edited to add, I have had a look at them and though there is no doubt in my mind that this is my family, the dates are utterly up the creek - mum, according to dc would have been born c1897 but in 1841 census was age 30, daughter was registered in 1842 and was registered as Mary Ella so how she came to be Mary Ann and b c 1832 I have no idea.  She was Mary E as informant on the dc.  Oh dear, more confusion as the skeletons clank around the closet!  I have no idea how to find them in 1851 and have done all sorts of fuzzy searches!

Many Thanks!

I am having great difficulty finding my Langlois family in the earlier censuses and one in particular I am keen to find, died in Warren St (no 74) in February 1862 so I am hoping that she may have been there in the census only the index doesnt identify her.  Does anyone have any idea in which enumeration district I could find Warren St for this census please?

Thanks

COWLEY        Isabella 1862 Durham Central
SWINBURN    John       1862 Durham Central
Search Results From Marriages 1851 to 1860
RICHARDSON Isabella  1857 Durham Western
HIRD              George   1857 Durham Western
ELTRINGHAM  Isabella  1857 Durham Western
Are there Any census info with these names. Cowley could have meant to be Lowery
         Carol80 in New Zealand

I can help with this family - Cowley was indeed Cowley not Lowery - she was married twice and is my step gt gt grandmother so not the one you are looking for, I fancy

These Finchams are on my tree and you are right, William and Grim(m)er the elder are both sons of John Fincham and Elizabeth Armager - they were both born in Mildenhall.
