I'm currently researching a friend's tree and have come across an illegitimate family.

A 'housekeeper' was living with the assumed father - certainly for the younger children - and later married him in 1888.

I am linking into a daughter, Ada, whose birth was registered in the December quarter of 1884 with the GRO, under her mother's surname of Varney.
This same lady appears in the 1939 register with a listed birth date of 17th September 1884.

However, there is also a baptism for her on 13th April 1884 - right name, right location, only mother listed on the baptism record.

Can anyone offer any explanation for this? She was born in a small village in Northamptonshire, and the names are not common ones.

I am tracing a friend's family tree and have arrived back as far as 1699, with Benjamin Harpham baptised to Denys Harpham in Tuxford.  I believe this Benjamin to be the one who married Ann Cowper in Alfreton in 1723.

I am interested in finding more out about Denys Harpham.  He appears on trees as being born around 1680 and married to an Elizabeth Bristowe, but I have seen no records to back this up.  I believe he also had three further sons: Thomas 1702, William 1705 and David 1709.

Does anyone have access to any records relating to Denys?  I would be very interested in any further info on him.

Thanks for taking the time to look for me. *If* this Thomas is mine, he's proving to be tricky. I do hope something will fall into place soon...I've been stuck on the Gibson line for years now, so I'm not expecting quick progress!
