Thanks Trish, I have used that site before and its been quite useful and, as you say, not too expensive. They seem to have extended their coverage and it looks pretty good for North Yorks so I'll have another go!  :D

Hi tosh, you haven't said what exactly you want looking up. You can check the births on the Tees Valley Indexes web site
http://middlesbrough-indexes.co.uk/index.php

I can find Sheila in 1937 and John in 1939 but no sign of Lancelot  ;)
And by the way, Middlesbrough was in the North Riding of Yorkshire, not East. Perhaps Moderator can move your query?  8)

clazey, you can use the Tees Valley Indexes
http://www.middlesbrough-indexes.co.uk/index.php
They provide a marvellous service, you can search online and if you have some information, can ask them if it is the correct entry. They are very friendly and efficient, you can order a certificate by phone and it will be with you next day and very quickly ordering by post too. You didn't say roughly what year it was, presumably you can have a guess by the ages of the sons?  :)

Just wondered what folks think of the NBI - is it good value? I was tempted to lash out the forty-odd quid to buy it at the Family History fair but as usual, I haven't studied the literature thoroughly and am not sure whether it will provide as much info as I need to justify the outlay. My ancestors were mainly in North Yorkshire, Co. Durham and Devon. What do you think?

Not sure but doesn't clicking 'Don't show me these again' do the trick Nick? (Trick Nick, trick Nick, I like that!) Sorry, the first time was unintentional, got carried away!  ;D
