Why didn't I think of doing that >:( >:( >:( O.K. I'm off to Scotlands People to look into that one. I just rang my mother to find out if she knew who Anthony married but she only met him the once and he had a son with him. So I can also look into that because if I have the sons name I may be better able to search the Ellis Island records. She believes Peter went over to New York perhaps Queens to work with Anthony who had a Used Car business. Oh it just gets better a booky & a used car salesman. Thank you SOOOOO much for your help a fresh outlook may just be what I need.

He didn't leave the family as such as in divorce or anything, I believe his brother Anthony lived there although the only record I have of Anthony is that he was a witness to Peter & Marys wedding in 1900 in Motherwell. Once again I stumbled with so many common names looking for Anthony I cannot decipher who is the correct one. His wife apparently arranged for the ashes to be sent "home" to Scotland. Good one, now you have me thinking down another avenue. (I suppose that's good for the brain).

Unless I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing, I have been trying for seven years. I even wrote to the New York City Police Commssioner and got I lovely letter back saying they would be glad to help, but need more information. The problems I ran into were that there a lots & lots & lots of Farrells that went to America. I have tried the Ellis Island records with no matches. I do believe that there is always one in every family that no-one knows anything about and that's always the one that we want to know about. I have no idea why he went over there. I do know that he was Irish and he was a booky, so he was probably up to something dodgy. But then again I am only going on family heresay.>:( ???

Thank you all very much for your help. I don't feel so alone now when someone else helps. I will contact Airbles Cemetery Admin immediately. I do have the marriage certificate, death certificate and 1901 census. I need to find out what happened to Peter Farrell that is why I thought Mary's headstone might have a clue. Family rumour has it that he went to New York and was murdered on the Staton ISland Ferry. He was supposedly cremated there and his ashes sent back to Mary in Motherwell. He was alive in 1923 when his eldest daughter Bridget married, but was deceaased in 1935. My thought is to work with the information I do have and see where that leads me.
Again, thank you all :)  :)

Lanarkshire / Farrell - Where are they buried
« on: Friday 15 February 08 09:40 GMT (UK)  »
Hello there. I am doing my family tree (Baxter & Farrell). I am the only member of my family born in Australia, which makes it difficult to visit actual places.

Most of my immediate family came from Motherwell & Wishaw. I have hit a brick wall with my Great Great Grandparents. My GGGrandmother lived and died in Motherwell. My problem is I cannot find any trace of my GGGrandfather beyond the 1901 census. My thought is that my GGGrandmothers headstone may hold some vital clues, she died in 1948. Could anyone give some advice on perhaps  how to find out where they were buried (I have a death certificate). Any advise would be very much appreciated as I do not have any known relatives that I am aware of in the area to help.
