Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: Finding maiden names ...

Thank you for your replies.
Abit confused: if Charles was illigitimate and therefore called C H TAYLOR (after his mother) why would he be listed as C H HAGUE in 1881 census yet marry as Taylor 2 years later ...  what do you think the first name of father Hague is on the marriage certificate - I've tried zooming in and it could possibly be Thos - what do you think? The next 2 pages of the marriage certs don't have a Hague and it doesn't look like the faint bit was coming through from any paged underneath.

Thank you for such a quick reply! I still can't find him ... and what do the letters/numbers after 1871 mean? Probably something obvious but I'm just learning!

Family History Beginners Board / Census not matching relevantly
« on: Saturday 07 January 12 09:51 GMT (UK)  »
Quite new to all this - have had lots of help from this great forum. Just wondering why many of my census searches throw up so many obviously irrelevant matches - eg "best" match with Christian name completely wrong ... place nothing like ... all rather frustrating!

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Thornley Bolton Area?
« on: Saturday 07 January 12 09:47 GMT (UK)  »
Can't locate on census
Thomas Thornley father of Agnes Thornley (Agnes think born 1862 mother's maiden name (Ann) Ward - marriage found Lancs BDM 1861 Bolton) but can't find the family listed in the relevant census. Feel sure would be in Bolton (all this part of the family seem to be born/marry/die in local area!). Agnes married Charles H Taylor 1883 Bolton All Souls and someone off forum has kindly found Parish record for me.

I wondered if it was blank and something was showing through - but the signature of the witness is William Hague and in the father's name it seems to say Hague too (lamplighter) - maybe just a coincidence?

Gosh - thank you so much for that - didn't realise this sort of thing was available. ;D

I've had a look at what's available in Bolton  - what about parishes not listed there?
Also can you read his rank/profession and what about his father's name?
