Hi Jamcat 95

I have Michaeline born on 2 Aug 1888 • Fakse, Praesto, Denmark.

I just think that at their late stages in life they would have remained in the UK. I have Ancestry Worldwide and have tried that but no luck. I have found a couple of Henry Wilkes who died late 60s and early 70s but not in the districts I would have thought the deaths to be registered so no conclusive facts as yet. I dont want to go down the route of death certs as it gets very expensive.

Thank you again for your interest and assistance.

Hi Dawnsh - I have Ancestry worldwide along with dabbling in the other search sites. Still nothing. It may be that the transcriptions of names are wrong and I am passing them by.

Hi Amondg - Thank you for your response. I believe I have this information but thank you anyway. I am pretty much up to speed on their history except their Deaths.

This family are very interesting but a real mystery to me at times. Hey ho that's what makes it worth while when you actually find something.

Thank you all again x

Hi Dawnsh - Have tried every name variation I can think of. I even thought she remarried and went down that route. I am afraid that the Robinson / Wilkes have been quite difficult to trace because of the way in which they choose to record their names. It has been a bit of a nightmare but hopefully one day I will solve this one. x

Hi All - thank you. Yes I was referring to the electoral register of 1957. Hence I anticipate their deaths to be after this year but I am unable to find anything further. I have tried all free sites and paid sites but unable to find their deaths. I wouldn't have thought that they would emigrate so late in their lives. I know that within the family they sometimes used the Robinson surname and other times the Wilkes and sometimes both. Very confusing.
Thank you all again your time is much appreciated. Frustrating as it is I will keep looking. x

I have been trying to find the deaths of two of my family and I am bemused as to why I cannot find anything past 1957.
I am looking for the registered deaths of Michaeline Christine Jensen [born 2 Aug 1888 - Denmark]. She became Wilkes when she married Henry Wilkes. Henry was born initially as Robinson in  Camberwell on 12 April 1879 - name changed at baptism to Wilkes. The couple have mostly lived at 171-175 [Flat 35] Queensgate SW7 [Knightsbridge Ward but most of the records stop at 1957. I am therefore presuming that they passed away shortly after this year.
I have tried all avenues - can anyone help please.
Much appreciated.

I would like to thank everyone for their updates and I think there is a lot of useful information which I will follow through. I do think it is odd re the registering of the birth and it could have been a liaison. The passenger list is also something to look at.

All in all I feel it has been a very sad life for Sylvester and as the first record I have of him is age 6 then again in the 1939 census, I wonder at what age he was admitted and why. One for another day maybe but once again thank you all.

I am looking for more information on an adopted child back in 1905. He was a little boy and I believe he was African. He was adopted by the Wilkes family and his birth was registered in 1905 in the Wandsworth district as Sylvester Emmanuel Ohene Kwamina Quarde Wilkes. I presume his original name was Emmanuel Ohene Kwamina Quarde and was adopted at birth. But what confuses me he must have been given his original name prior to him being registered as Sylvester Wilkes. I can trace him at 6 years old in the 1911 census as Sylvester Wilkes but after that I am unable to find anything more on him until his death in 1981. He lived in Friern Barnet, Hendon and his death was registered under the name Sylvester Ohene Quarde so it looks like he may have reverted to his original surname. I have tried all names and I am unable to find him on electoral lists. It is quite sad that there is no trace of marriage etc. I think of him as a lost soul. Is there any family out there? Can anyone help please x
