The Common Room / Re: Help to identify photo of church please.

Many thanks to you all for your interest and suggestions!  ;D

Have tried enlarging the pic but it is too blurred and impossible to make out any lettering that would be helpful.

Another impossible task is narrowing down where it could have been taken according to family ties - my mothers side of the family is vast and hops all over England (and a bit of Scotland), not to mention a good crop of vicars thrown in amongst them all! This church could indeed be ANYWHERE!

I do love mysteries and the merry hunt they take you on, as long as you solve it...eventually!

If I do find out where it is I will be sure to let you know, and many thanks again everyone!

Tamar

P.S. Found another amazing site - 1000's of photo's of churches - for a rainy day  ;D

Hello Rootschatters!  ;D

Hope one of you kind souls can help out with this photo of a church!
My mum found it in a box of old photographs she has, and has no idea where the church is. She has obviously kept the image for many years so it must be relevant to the family somehow and we would be ever so grateful if someone could solve the mystery.

Many thanks!

US Lookup Requests / Boston, MA birth & census look up PLEASE
« on: Tuesday 09 February 10 23:05 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Rootschatters  :)

This is a long shot, but nothing ventured, nothing gained!
What follows is ALL the information I have about this person, and ANY help or advice would be gratefully received!

Am trying to find CHARLES REID born in Boston, Massachusetts circa 1856.
His father was Charles Reid (a Gardener), mother Mary.

Charles was living in Edinburgh, Scotland by 1888 as he married there. The marriage certificate is where the information regarding his parents is from. Both parents were deceased by 1888 according to the information on the certificate.

I have found him on both the 1891 and 1901 Scottish Census. I am trying to piece together his life in America, and whether or not his parents were from the US or not. I cannot find a record for him entering the UK.

Any help is very much appreciated!
Thank you,
Tamar

WOW  ;D
Thanks ev!!

Catherine was 36 on the 1901 census, so circa 1865/4 which is close enough! Am pretty sure this is the right lead due to the maiden name of Houston - a grand child was given Houston as a middle name which ties it all in.

Think I may bite the bullet and get some credits for Scotlandspeople.

Thank you so much fro your help! Really appreciated!  :)

Midlothian / Edinburgh marriage look-up - COMPLETED -
« on: Thursday 04 February 10 14:05 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Rootschatters,   ;D

Could some kind soul help me out with finding a possible marriage in Edinburgh? I have only just statred this research and am not 100% sure I'm going in the right direction, also the first time my research has lead to Scotland!

Am trying to find a Charles REID (born circa 1857 in Boston, Massachusetts to Scottish parents) who married a Catherine Mary ??   sometime around 1887. Catherine Mary was born in Edinburgh, as were all their children, so I am assuming the marriage took place there.

They had the following children all born in Edinburgh:
Margaret Mary bc 1889
Catherine J      bc 1890
Sarah W          bc 1892
Charlotte R      bc 1895
Charles            bc 1898

Any help or extra information would be a HUGE help!

Mant thanks,
Tamar

Hampshire & IOW Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Burial 1763 St. Thomas, Portsmouth

Thanks Nell  :)

I'd reached the same conclusions as you with guestimating his age according to possible age at marriage.
Will have to accept that sometimes that elusive info is just not available as it doesn't exist  :)
