Hi Mo
I thought that too but again, I can't find any trace of that marriage either.
I've got more than one brick wall here.

cheers

I can't find a Scottish one either so that's another mystery to add to my growing pile.
Thanks again

I did see that one too but I've been on SP & there's no record of a marriage between those two names in Scotland round about that time.
Same with births. I may have to come up with a list of alternatives for Chorley in case of mis-spelling.
Thanks for looking

Anne

ps I have a wrong date on another cert which makes the bride 8 months old at time of marriage! :o

England / Born in England - but where?

Hi all
I'm looking for guidance please. I have a Henry Davis/Davies in Scotland & in both 1901 & 1911 census's it states place of birth as England. He signs his name Henry on his children's birth certs but on one census, he is down as Harris, so he may have been known as Harry. I have copy of his marriage cert from 1901 when he was 21. His parents were John Davies (dec) & Elizabeth McWhinnie, formerly Davies ms Chorley. I have no experience at all of English records & have no idea how to look for them. I've tried Ancestry & IGI but as I have no idea of county, it's proving impossible. Can anyone explain (simply please) how to go about looking for his birth, parents marriage & births?

Well I looked up Agnes's birth & she was born, Agnes Campbell Wardrop in 1877 at Bridgeton Glasgow. Mother registered birth & signed M Wardrop. Quality of copy is dreadful so I've emailed sp as I can barely make out dates & home address.
Next, Marriage of Colin & Mary. He signed as Colin-Campbell Wardrop with a hyphen. Mother is Janet Wardrop, bonnet knitter but no father details. Marriage was in Bridgeton Glasgow.
Next step is to look up all those census returns now and add siblings etc.
I would never have thought of turning the names around so thanks for that.
It's taking me off into another branch & the tree is getting bigger all the time but unless I can find the Davis branch it's going to be a bit lopsided!

Cheers

It looks like Largy & there is a small hamlet of that name in County Londonderry. Is that an area that would fit in with your search?

Wow :o thanks for all that. It's going to take a bit of unravelling & some more credits on the sp account I think. It will give me a break from the elusive Davis's.
Cheers

Hi again,
sorry just noticed that you asked what Colin Campbell's wife ms was. I think it was Mary McTear.
Can you tell me which board I should post this on for more help please?
Thanks
Anne
