1861 Surname - TODD - Everton? - the sister and mother [Agnes] are living there.

I am looking for -
Thomas TODD - about 30 - born Dumfries Scotland - watchmaker.

In 1851 he is in Dumfries and unmarried, then all the family disappear and turn up in Liverpool.  Did he come too?

I am always having to re-activate my details just about with every visit to rootschat. 

It drives me nuts as I have to look up details each time - poor memory and multiple passwaords don't help.

I have never received an activation email either.

Is this usual practice?

Scotland / description of Dumfries-Newton Stewart-Kirkcudbright in late 1700

I've searched around the internet for a description of what these towns would have looked like in the late 1700s looking for details such as population employment housing/churches travel photos !!! etc but haven't found anything.

Does that sort of descriptive information exist?

I would like to have a small idea of life in those times other than my idea of what it must have been like.

Can anyone give a few details or references to publications?

Wigtownshire / How to find McKeand in Newton Stewart OPR

It seems - form the 1841 census in Dumfries that Agnes McKeand was born in 1793 in Newton Stewart.  I would love to know her parents.

Am I correct in saying that "scotlands people" doesn't seem to have Newton Stewart records on their site?

Are the parish BDM records available anywhere for this town?

Hello all

Does anyone have access to these records?

I have been told Martin Lucas birth/baptism was registered in 1705 in Tutbury but cannot confirm this from Australia - so frustrating being so far away.

I am interested in any mention if LUCAS in Tutbury.

Australia Lookups completed / John Renwick convict ship query

The John Renwick ship arrived 1838 NSW with 173 female convicts.

I've found details saying this ship sailed from "Downs".

I've searched a detailed multiscale British place map and can't find any Downs.

Is there anyone on the list who can suggest where this may be?

That's wonderful - I especially want to find the Rumble/Rumball people as they are known direct links and I have spent years at this brickwall - maybe the others are family too but I can't prove it at the moment.  There appears to be quite a story behind this lot - the only bit of excitement in my whole family tree.

Now -  for Tas records I just wrote away naming the person and back came the records [not free of course].  Is this what you do for NSW?   Where do you write?

Many thanks for your responses.

I have searched the Tas archives - no-one of the names I am after - and - I have searched the suggested websites - again no-one of the names I am after.

These are the names -
Samuel 45 and Sarah 46 Rumble/Rumball or similar spelling
William 45 , John 35 and Sophia 24 Tuck.
They were all sentenced to up to 14 years transportation in 1836/7.

Now I think that SA and Vic didn't take convicts at this time so it has to be NSW.

I am going to try and search the online NSW BDMs to see if Sophia anyway married and maybe find the death of the others.

That is all I know at present. 

I am surprised that NSW doesn't have a searchable listing of convicts like Tas.   What does one have to do to find a convict connection in NSW?
