Cumberland / Re: Meyers - or any variation thereof!

Thanks Geoff E ! Thanks for a very swift reply!

I wonder why they indexed it as MEGER?  ???

Does the entry give any indication of who's head of the household, as I see there are two families at that address?

Any ideas how I could track down who he was working for, or if he was self-employed?

Thanks again!  8)

Cumberland / Meyers - or any variation thereof!
« on: Thursday 06 July 06 23:41 BST (UK)  »
Hello, I've just discovered this site, so apologies if any of you recognise me (and my desperate pleas!) from other messageboards! ;)

I have a man of mystery (don't we all!) - Archibald Meyers (Meyre/Myers) who appears on the 1851 census for Wetheral, being born in Scotland around 1815. He's listed as a stonemason, married to Margaret (Bulman) and had nine children, the last born just before the census. Then - he disappears! (Arch, not the baby!)

Margaret remarried to a Francis Birkett and is widdowed by the 1881 census.

I have the entry for Margaret and Archibald's marriage in Wetheral 1835, but can't seem to find the family on the 1841 census - they would have had four children by then, including my maternal G-Grandfather, Edward, b. 1839.

As he's a stonemason - would Archibald be recorded in any trade directories for the area?

Can anyone help, please?  ???

Hello.
Do you still have access to the indexes for Canonbie etc?

I'm interested in finding out about a John Beattie d. 28/Oct/1769, Thorniewhats, Canonbie and his wife, Janet Holiday d. 11/Feb/1775, also Canonbie. Would this be too early for them to be buried at Canonbie, or might they be buried elsewhere - Eskdalemuir, for instance?

I'd be delighted with anything you might be able to share!
