I have a photo of my uncle and aunt's wedding which is almost identical - they got married in 1946 or '47 in Lewisham, South London

Have you tried "Family Search"?  No fee to join and has most of the Census records available.

Hello barryd.  Yes, I think you are being a little hyper-critical (or picky!).  The Cambridge Dictionary definition of Census says:

"A count for official purposes, especially one to count the number of people living in a country and to collect information about them"

so I think the 1939 "Census" qualifies!!  The reason it is treated differently is because it was not on the regular 10-year Census timeline.  I lived in Ladywell, and it was predominantly working class in our road.

However, this is irrelevant to the topic under discussion.  I was merely trying to help Dale find the answer to his question.

I know it is a while ago now, but have you looked at the 1939 Census?  This will give the details of the residents there.

I too went to Gordonbrock - firstly in the Infants and again when we came back from Scotland in 1948.

Good luck with your search!

World War One / Re: Thomas Law

It seems that I have been barking up the wrong tree!!  Mrs Law askednus to find her husband's grave, but as I was only 15 when I met her, I could have forgotten the bit about his name being Parry.  SO, OFF I GO AGAIN......

Thomas and Catherine were living in Llandudno in 1911.  They had two children, Phyllis aged 4 and John Joseph under a year.  Cathering died in St Asaph, N Wales, in 1962 aged 78, and I met her there in 1954.  Unfortunately there is another couple with exactly the same names in W Midlands, which made the search more difficult, but there are several Thomas Law's listed on CWG's casualties list, I just don't know which is the right one.

World War One / Thomas Law

Years ago when on holiday in North Wales I met the midwife who delivered me, and she asked my family to look for her husband's grave when we went on a forthcoming visit to France.  We couldn't find it, and I have been looking for any record of him over the years since then.  His name was Thomas Law, born in Liverpool in 1884 and was 27 in 1911, married to Catherine and living in Llandudno working as a shop assistant.  No idea what service or regiment he was in, and no death record in UK.  Can anybody help me solve this mystery?

This is the first and last mention in US I have been able to find.  The last mention of her is difficult  but from Probate records she died on 6 October 1916, but with a name like Jones in Glamorgan, it is impossible to pin down which one she is in the records.

United States of America / Re: Children of Ann Jones (nee Evans)
« on: Saturday 11 February 17 11:18 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Ambly.  I wrote this very late last night, so apologies for the message!  I know that Ann Evans married James Davies in Merthyr Tydfil in 1854.  I can't find them in the 1861 Census, but know that she went to America.  In 1870 she appears in the American Census of Conshoken with Daniel Driskel and a daughter, Maggie aged 3.  In 1871 she is back living with her father, Evan Evans, with Daniel Driskel (Driscoll) and Richard Davies aged 16 and John Davies aged 14.  I would like to know whether James died, where and when she married Daniel in the US, and what happened to the Davies sons as I believe they went back to the US later in their lives.  Her second husband, Daniel, was my great great grandfather, but he was tragically killed in a railway accident in 1874, and Ann married again in 1875 to Morgan Evan Jones.
