Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Photo date and clean if possible please
« on: Tuesday 04 November 08 10:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I have this photo of my Gt x 2 Grandfather. Looking at the uniform, I believe it was taken between 1908 and 1910, though I'm not sure. He was born 1847, though in the photo I thought he looked about 70/80 < blush > . I am trying to establish ( if it is a Salvation Army Uniform ) if the family were always SA, as I had believed that my Gt Gran didn't join until after losing her husband in WW1. The photo has got very grubby, so I don't know if a clean would be possible.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi Debbie,
I've been through every combination under the sun ;D Even omitting last name and trawling through the Elizas born 1862 +/-2 etc.

I actually only just found Margaret today on the 1881. Decided to try and find who some of her sisters married, and took pot luck at one of them. Checked the 1871 after the marriage, and saw there was a daughter Grace E, which made it more probable it was her sister. Decided to check the 1881, and low and behold with that family was a Margaret R???S c1839, but stated born Salford. it had to be her!

I've been stuck on this family years, and keep going back to it every now and then.

My main issue is that William Cliff was my GtGt Grandfather. The only William Cliff born Salford 1858, was this one. The birth cert doesn't name a father, and he was born Morris St, nextdoor to where margaret was living with her parents on the 1851. He married in 1880, and states his father as being called Joseph, a carter, which I believe to be fictional, as I have never been able to find a death for a Joseph Cliff c1858, and also Joseph wasn't named on birth cert.
I'm trying to establish whether this William Cliff on the 1871 working as a servant is him, or if I'll hopefully find him with Margaret, Frederick and Eliza.

Cheers, Sue

Lancashire / Reeve- Salford-1871

Hi,

I've been trying to locate a Margaret Reeve, Frederick Reeve and Eliza Reeve on the 1871 census, but have had no luck whatsoever! :(

Margaret nee Cliff was born c1839 ( age changes on everything! ) Bolton ( on 1881 she's down as being born Salford. Finally found her after years of looking on there! )

Margaret had a son William Cliff 1858 Salford out of marriage. I believe I have found him on the 1871 working in Hulme as a servant, though it says he was born Hulme.

Margaret married a Richard Reeve in 1861. it was his 3rd marriage.
They had a daughter together, Eliza, born 1862 Salford district.

Richard died 1867, and all his children from his previous marriage, apart from Frederick, died between 1861 and 1870.

Margaret married a John Taylor in 1882.

I have all of them now for the 1881, but it's just the 1871 that's been driving me mad.

I would be most grateful for any help on this.

Cheers :)

I deleted a post earlier, saying something strange was happening, and it's doing it again. Some of the words are in blue with a link to amazon books. Is it my computer or is it supposed to happen?

Thanks SKB,

I thought it was the 1861 that was damaged, though I think I've also found some of the 1871 damaged for that area. Such a shame :(

Wow SKB,

Thanks so much for that :) I had thought that John and Mary were twins, as I think it said on the IGI that they were christened the same day.

Is there any reason why part of the 1851 was unfilmed?

I think I found Thomas on the 1841, on ancestry, mistranscribed as Ryle. I think it says Watkins St.

Strange that Ann called herself Nancy on 1 census though.

Thx again, Sue
