hi could anyone tell me if theyve found a link between mungo park and martha and isabelle/a park? i know there is one, as i am a direct descendent of isabella sister of martha and daughter of margaret anderson and john park, i cant find the connection yet to mungo the explorere, but i know there is a connection as my great aunt used to get an annual letter and some sort of payment with it, im not sure what the payment was or the letter for that matter, my mum mentioned it to be something to do with the mungo park direct descendent foundation or something of that sort, the money was not life changing but in hard times im sure it still dont its bit, i am really intrigued by the character mungo and would love to find the connection, i have came across many people saying they are descendants (including me til a prove it), aswell as people from africa where he explored he seemed quite a guy,... anything atoll would be appreciated

hi does anyone have any info on a line of my ancestors please, first of all i my grandfathers mum was margaret stewart she died in edinburgh but born either jedburgh or kelso, her mother was margaret middlemist and her father was george stewart, george was born 1867 i think, george henry stewart, he had several siblings all born potentially in kelso, i know the family moved around alot but one generation at least seem to have all stayed in kelso for a while, georges father was alexander who served in india as a quartermaster where he met the mother of his children alicia wilshire, at least to my knowledge anyway, alexanders father was also alexander, there is a record for who i think is georges grandfather, it seems he died in kelso then the family came to edinburgh, this is a part of the record: Alexander Stewart-1. He was born Abt. 1825 in Durnist, Caithness, Scotland. He died on 04 Feb
1893 in 46 Horseshoemarket, Kelso, Roxburghshire, Scotland. i do have more info but nothing i can get anywhere with myself, so if it might be of use to anyone else or you can help me i would be grateful

Travelling People / Scottish Stewarts (90% certain scottish travellers)
« on: Friday 24 February 12 17:09 GMT (UK)  »
hi was wondering if anyone had any connections or info on stewarts in scotland, i am doing the line of stewarts, i think they were travellers, well they were in the army in india for a while but before and after that there occupations were travelling journeyman and basketmakers which were proffesions of scottish travellers of that time, the people i am looking at so far is george henry stewart born in kelso in 1867, he had several siblings, his father was alexander stewart and mother alicia wilshire, alexander was in the army in india as a quartmaster for a while, but his father alexander was from caithness one of the most northern points of scotland, the family had births and marriages in near enough every corner of scotland over the space of 2 or 3 generations, some crossed the border which isnt rare in the travelling community as they are more loyal to there own roots of the travelling and gypsie nation than they are to a single scotland or england or ireland, some did go to america iv heard, im looking for info on them all really i do have more info so if this family rings any bells let me know and i can tell more, but i cant get past georges grandfather alexander, i think he might have either been born in caithness but it is possible he was born in blairgowrie(perth) or campsie(stirling) anything would be great cheers
