I think this is my great grandfather - a pic found in my mothers posessions with a note to say 'from auntie Milly' however, as there is no auntie Milly or Millicent in my tree (yet) I need to piece this together - a date would be helpful as to the mans suit and his age maybe - the back of the picture has a stamp that says 24  Dec 1959 or 1939 as its not been stamped right I could see if either of those days was a Sunday which would exclude a photographers being open on a Sunday but so far I havent worked out the  day as i think the pic is a re-print (but neither of my great grandads lived beyond 1918 so it could even be an gr grand uncle ) however , he does look like my grandfather did at that age apart from built larger.
any help would appreciate - also does anyone have any idea what Milly might be short for ?

hi everyone , ive been trying to get the correct death date and details for my gr grnadpa William Coward
he was born in 1843 in leigh lancashire and moved to Bolton lancashire with his wife Alice - hes missing from the 1891  census but Alice states shes married the next cnesus shes down as widow, I cannot find any reference to his death at all here in Bolton or lancashire and hes missing from the gravestone totally. so he died between 1891-1901 - so ive searched for deaths betwwen 1890 and 1902 to cater for errors , ive also searched passenger lists and probate and still I cant find him - although a lone William Coward travells from liverpool aged 50 to USA the age doesnt match -
Ive searched deaths in Amercia along with my American cousins for help - came up with no matches -

Ive found a death in Dartford Kent which matches exactly to my william b 1843 and its a death in 1892 - i know not how to search for a possible burial for this - can anyone help ? Im also wondering why he would be in Dartford i was just wondering if he was sent to prison or something as I was somehow thinkinng there was a prison there at one time - and Ive found a matching record for a prison record for a william Coward at that time - so was wondering if someone could help me on this - did my gr grandad die in prison maybe ?

as for further details he was a joiner and didnt come from a very poor background they seemed to be ok and on the up - hes just mssing from  all details here and i would love to know what happened to him.

Can anyone help - still looking after 4 yrs gr grandfathers burial is a mystery - despite me helping others with ancestry and putting over 1,000 gravestones on line i still havent sorted out this one particular gent -
here are the details (summary )
born in 1843 in leigh William Coward , married Alice Waterworth in 1866. They moved into Farnworth at some stage (possibly as his own grandfather had moved from leigh to Bolton at sometime in the past as well ) he has several children with Alice (i have all their burials and marriages ect)

I have Alices death in 1922 as well as grave stone , she is buried with some of the children who died young but her husband William is not on the gravestone !! this is at farnworth cemetery so assuming he may have been buried there as well but the decd on line is coming up a blank on that despite my grandfather being buried there as well with his family too -

in 1881 the census we find him (William ) with his wife and kids living in Farnworth, but by 1891 Alice on her own on the census but looks like still married - no sign of Will .

Checked the BMD and its either not updated but hes not there - assuming he died sometime between 1881 (check the census but it does look like alice has put M as married) but by 1901 shes defo a widow so a burial between 1881 and 1901 for a william Coward I simply cant find a fit .

He could be buried in Leigh but hes defo not in Farnworth cem - but nothing on the bmd
And where is he in 1891 ? I have found what looks like a criminal conviction for a william Coward in 1891 but not sure about that -

Strange how he isnt on the gravestone at Farnworth -

Williams father James is buried at leigh cem and his father before him too but they are on /common grave / but they still appear on the BMD !!

any suggestions greatfully appreciated on where to look next

just letting people know i have put some  pics and MIs on find a grave.com for the above , we already have some Mi s transcribed but not all the burial ground has been done and im trying to put a lot of pictures on as well -
keep and eye on find a grave as it takes over a year for the records to appear as hints on ancestry - so its always worthwhile looking even if the hints havent appeared
