Good evening (from Down Under),

I am wondering if anyone could please point me to the right database/s for marriages in Northampton (the town) during the period between 1810 to 1820.

I've tried Ancestry (eg Extracted Parish Records for Northampton), FreeREG, findmypast, etc. I'm afraid I may looking in all the wrong places. ???

George Atkinson married a 'Jane' in Northampton probably between 1815 and 1819 only based on the fact that the Atkinsons baptised their children at St Giles (one child at Doddridge Memorial though) between 1819 and 1828.

Because most of the children were baptised at St Giles, would I be right in saying that it was usual for families to remain within that parochial area for earlier events like marriage too? It appears that the FreeREG database would not cover the presumed St Giles period referred to above.

I would be most grateful any help or guidance on database usage.

Many thanks,

Sarah

Hi all,

I am researching Richard and Mary McDougall Peskett, who lived around Cunnamulla from the 1890s until their respective deaths. I would really appreciate it if someone could please check the Qld electoral rolls for their details.

Thanks Elfie  :D

I keep reading about people receiving 10 free credits for ScotlandsPeople after registering for the Ancestral Scotland newsletter. I have tried to register but the page reads 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage'. :'( Out of general interest, has it worked for you?

« on: Saturday 26 September 09 10:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I don't know if there is a similar thread up yet, so I am taking the liberty of posting this. I thought some of you might be interested to know that the Rookwood Anglican and General Cemeteries Grave Search facility is now online. To access the records, you have to register as a free member. Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox are compatible with the grave search program. The program is not yet compatible with Google Chrome or Safari... Here is the link: http://rookwoodcemetery.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1&Itemid=59
I have already found an ancestor, so I am as happy as anything. ;D

Cheerio,

Kent / Wakeling - Strood
« on: Friday 18 September 09 12:09 BST (UK)  »
Hiya :D

I am researching the ancestry of my great-nanna's side of my family. I have struck a brickwall trying to find out more information about her great-grandmother, Margaret Hughes nee Wakeling. Margaret married John Hughes. Margaret Wakeling was born in 1826 in Strood, Kent and her parents were William Wakeling and Margaret (nee Skinner??). From what I have gathered, Margaret was the eldest of her siblings. She was followed by Charlotte, William, Eleanor, James, John and Ann. John and Ann were born in Middlesex. However, the rest were born in Strood, Kent. I do not know anything about Margaret's parent, other than circumstantial sources. I will be thankful for any help than anyone can give me.

Cheers

Australia Lookups completed / ANDERSON - Cobar/Bourke
« on: Sunday 09 August 09 13:33 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I am attempting to round off a particular branch of my tree, so here goes: My great-great grandma, Sarah Ellen Freeman (nee Brennan) married firstly to Edward James Freeman at Bourke and secondly to Charles Anderson at Cobar. To her first husband, she had eight children: Edward, Percival, Ruby (my great-grandma), Robert, William, Arthur, Alfred and Esther. The last child of this union was born 1900 in Bourke. Her husband died in 1907 in Bourke. She remarried in 1910 to Charles E Anderson in Cobar at the age of 46. She also gave birth to Eric C Anderson and presumably died during childbirth during 1910.

I am now wondering where her husband, Charles originated from, where he disappeared to after Sarah died and, in particular, whether Sarah and Charles knew each other previously. It seems there is a man who fits the profile of Charles in Bourke - this Charles married Annie Coffy in 1894 at Bourke and had five children: Clara, Ruby, Reginald, William and Violet. Annie died in 1904 in Bourke, which means that Charles would have been free to marry. I believe his 'son's' (William) enlistment record there is reference to the fact that he did not know the whereabouts of his father. Charles may have died in Ryde in 1929. Thanks in advance.

Cheerio,

Elfie ;D
