Armed Forces / Possible Canadian WW1 uniforms
« on: Sunday 30 September 18 15:29 BST (UK)  »
I have recently scanned this photo of two WW1 soldiers and an older lady.  I would be interested if anyone could identify the uniforms.  I suspect that they are Canadian, my grandfather and his brother both served with the Canadian army (I have downloaded their papers, 2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles and RCAMC).
The photo was with some that were my grandmothers, I know that they are not her brothers (they served with the RNAS).  Hope someone can help, thanks

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Malim, Ann
« on: Sunday 12 November 17 19:17 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find this lady on the 1851 census so I can identify her birthplace.
She was born Ann Cau(c)kwell in about 1773, and married Mark Malim in Feb 1801.  He died in August 1849 ( I have the cert) and she died in Mar 1855 (I also have her cert).  His place of death was 10 Caroline Street Camden, she died 62 Great College Street Marylebone.  They had 5 children:
Martha Patty 1801-1888 (d. Fulham Place London)have this cert
Eliza Ann 1805- ?  no marriage or death found to date
Thomas Caukwell 1807-1891 d St Pancras, I have this cert
Georgiana Isabella 1809-1869 d 27 Camden Street Camden I have this cert
Ann Caukwell 1814-1814
I have tried to look for Martha, who remained a spinster, but she is also elusive.  Thomas married Laura Oliver and had 2 children.  He is also tricky to find in the 1851 and 1861 census.
Georgiana married William Harding, and I have with difficulty been able to track their movements through the relevent census.  William died in 1868, but they had 7 children and I know their whereabouts.
Would be grateful for any help!  Thanks

Australia / Watts family Adelaide
« on: Sunday 11 December 16 18:58 GMT (UK)  »
Hi I am wondering if SKS can help.  I am looking for the family of Percival Stuart Watts and his wife Josephine Mary Henry.  I already have copies of their obituaries thanks to a Roots member, but I would like to know what happened to their sons, one of whom was Barry Malim Watts.  The other two may still be alive, I don't know.  Barry's son Malim was a firefighter who died last year, and it's his obituary that says that Barry is deceased.  Percival and Josephine arrived in Australia in 1950, traveling with their three sons, and they seem to have settled in Adelaide.
Thanks for any pointers!

United States of America / Nevada Juliette Bona
« on: Sunday 04 October 15 13:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi  I wondered if anyone could help.
I am looking for the marriage of Edward Malim to Juliette Rose Bona.  Ancestry has an index only record which gives the date as 04 Apr 1877 Virginia City, Storey County Nevada.  I would really like to be able to trace Juliette's parents.
According to the1900 and 1910 census Juliette's father was Italian and her mother French.  I have no names for them.  Her death record in 1946 gives her DOB as 27 Jul 1855 in California.  Following Edward's death in 1901 Juliette married Byron H Garland.
Juliette and Edward had two daughters: Renee B C Malim b.1878 Colorado, and Marian Malim b.29 Jun 1879.  At the time of Renee's birth Edward was on the run with Juliette having absconded with money belonging to his employer!
I have a death notice from 1897 recording the death of Arthemise Delmas at the home of her daughter Mrs Edward Malim, she was 70, making her year of birth around 1827.
I have been unable to find Edward and Juliette on any US census apart from Juliette on the 1900 and 1910, following her 2nd marriage.  Edward appears on the 1880 US census and also on the Uk census 1851, 1861 and 1871.  I would be grateful for any pointers!  Thanks

London and Middlesex / Marian Kate Smith and Constance Winifred Smith
« on: Sunday 23 August 15 19:00 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I am looking for these two ladies on the 1901 census.  Marian Kate (born 1868 Chicago USA) and Constance Winifred (born 1870 King Street Westminster) were my grandmother's spinster aunts, daughters of Duncan Smith and his wife Sophia Emma (nee Almond).
They are not with their mother (widowed since 1875) nor can I see them with any other relatives.
In 1911 Marian is in Eastbourne along with her mother and another relative (Florence Isabel Ware) however I cannot find Constance on that census either.  Marian describes herself as a nurse.
Sophia died in 1925 in Worcester, Marian is the informant, Constance died in 1927 and again Marian is the informant.  Marian died in 1957 in Bexhill, her niece Grace Rosher was the informant.
I would appreciate any help locating both ladies on the 1911 and Constance on the 1901.  Many thanks

London and Middlesex / Johnson family of Westminster
« on: Saturday 08 August 15 17:11 BST (UK)  »
Rereading an ancestors will yesterday I noticed that she mentioned her nieces, the daughters of her deceased brother Harry and a couple of nephews, I have not got any record of them so I tried to find them and have hit a brickwall!  The details are as follows:
Will of Elizabeth Jane Johnson (1806 St Margaret Westminster- 1879 Hammersmith)  I have both the will and the death certificate informant of death C Western sister. (this is Caroline, married to George Western)
named beneficiaries that I cannot find:
Sophia Edith, Ellen Constance and Charlotte Anna daughters of deceased brother Harry
nephews George and Alfred, no mention of parents, maybe they are Harry's sons?

Elizabeth's parents were John Johnson (1774-1850) military plume manufacturer.  His will is available on Ancestry's PCC will collection.  Mother was Elizabeth (abt 1776-1835)

I have found the baptism of  a Henry Johnson in 1804, and there is a death of a Henry Johnson in 1817.  John and Elizabeth had at least 10 children, I have accounted for all but 3: Henry, John and Edward, all mentioned in John's will.

Searching yesterday I found a Sophia Edith marrying a Robert Balls Watts in 1889, born 1865 St Margaret Westminster.  Tracing her back I find her with a sister Helen Constance b. 1866, however their father appears to be Alfred.  Sophia and Helen are both born in Waterloo Liverpool. Alfred in turn seems to be the son of Joseph Field Johnson.  Joseph Field Johnson is a cap manufacturer, he dies intestate in 1847. (Administration on Ancestry)

So I would be grateful if anyone has any pointers for me!  Many thanks

Europe / Jean Baptiste Rossomme
« on: Monday 20 July 15 16:54 BST (UK)  »
My great great aunt Henrietta Clothilde Malim married Jean Baptiste in 1886 in her home town of Grantham.  The certificate gives his age as "full" and his father as Gabriel Joseph Ghislain Rossomme. Jean Baptiste was a widower on when they married.  They had a son Marcel, born in 1887 in Belgium.

I have been told that Jean Baptiste was the head of Rothchild's bank in Belgium.  Marcel served with the Belgian army during the First War and had "distinguished war service" (according to family history, written by Henrietta's sister Harriett).  I have also been told that Henrietta was a refugee twice, once during the First War and then again in the second.

Henrietta died in 1947 in Leyburn Yorkshire close to her sister Fanny.  Marcel was the informant. Marcel died in 1958 in Ripon, the informant was a cousin Barbara Malim.

I would like to know where to look for more information about Jean Baptiste, his birth, first marriage his death, and his work for Rothchild's in Belgium.

I  would also like to find out about Marcel's war service.  I have a record of him traveling from Durban in England in 1957.  I am told he had many "lady friends" but did not marry.

Henrietta Clothilde I would like to know how to find out about her evacuation from Belgium on both occasions.

No one in the family seems to have the answers to these queries!!  I would appreciate any help in finding out about this branch of my family.  Thanks
