Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Re: Northumberland Fusiliers
« on: Thursday 15 September 11 09:48 BST (UK)  »
I've just been looking for info about my G Uncle Charles Emerson Standley who went into the 14 battalion Northumberland fusilliers on 11 December 1915.  I have to comment on the amazing transformation you have done with that photo Morrie! It looks brilliant. Wish I could find one like that of my G Uncle!

Kind regards
Nicki

thanks everyone, Robert Henry Standley is my Grandfather, and yes I have all the birth certificates, Edith Robert Henry, Albert, Bertram are all Henry George's children.  However there is a birth certificate with no father on it for Charles Emerson.  Following Edith's birth Ann moved back to Louth I assume back to her parents.  But she had 15 siblings and ended up in Louth Workhouse.  It appears she was back and fore there for the next 20 years and Henry George keeps appearing to father her children.  But I can only  find conclusive census returns for him for 1861 and 1871  :-\

Henry George married Ann Snowden from Louth in 1875.  They met in Chorlton near Manchester.  Henry's father worked on the railways and I assume must have moved there from Norfolk for his work.  I have no idea why Ann moved from Louth to work in chorlton.  I really don't know where Henry went after this as Ann went to Louth Workhouse due to her husband deserting her but she still had his children at various times.

I can only assume he died just prior to 1901 as his estranged wife was classed as widowed on the 1901 census and prior to that he was still fathering children.  The thought of suicide occurred to me as I have just finished reading an article in Practical Family History about suicide.  The author concludes by saying 'if one of your ancestors 'disappears' from the records, it's worthwhile considering the possibility of suicide..'. I can only find census returns for 1861 and 1871.  I have a marriage certificate but he left his wife and she remained in Louth workhouse for 20 years.  However he must have had some contact as he fathered 4 of her children during this time!! He has been so elusive, I think I'm jsut clutching at straws now!

I'm still at a brick wall as to what happened to and how my Great Grandfather Henry George Standley born 1852 in Roudham, Wymondham died. Therefore, I am now considering whether he committed suicide. Does anyone know if a person committing suicide around the 1900 would still have a death certificate?   ???

I would like to see the online records for England and Wales to rise to the standard of Scotland's online service.

(And the abolition of Ancestry)

What's that about?  Ancestry is an amazing service and would recommend to any one interested in geneology.  Why did you say that? ???

Thanks Jeuel
Yes I agree with you, there is no evidence of Edward and Dorothy having Hamond and no evidence of wealth in my Stanley line so I can safely say they are not my ancestors.  Just glad a got an answer at last.
