Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Re: Davis family of Ablington/Bibury lookup please
« on: Tuesday 10 January 17 17:42 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Jane Davis would be my 4th great aunt. She was baptized 22 Oct 1807 in Bibury, Gloucestershire. She married Joseph Wood in 1842 and had no children. She died in 1898. Definitely not the same person, but they could be related.

I didn't even see that as an H. I thought it was something that ended in tt. Thanks!

Hi,

I need help deciphering the Profession or Trade of my 3 times Great Grandmother Sarah Walford. The second word looks like Keeper, but I can't figure out the first word. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for your reply!

I just looked at it again & I'm pretty sure that it is the mother of the bride's first & maiden name.  If you look at the beginning of the registry it lists the parents of the groom as Charles Robertson & Marguerite Fitzgerald (her maiden name).  It makes sense that the next part would have the bride's parents names.  It definitely says Samuel Hatton (father of the bride) so I think the next line is the bride's mother's first name & her maiden name (Marguerite Ch-----t,) or whatever it actually says. When I first started researching, I thought that Margaret's maiden name was Cassie because it is a name that has been passed down over the generations & we have no idea where it came from.  However, I think it's pretty safe to say that the name on the registry is not Cassie.

To clarify...Margaret Hatton is the name of the bride.  The name that I am trying to read is the bride's mother's name.  I'm not good at reading French, but I know it says that she is the daughter of Samuel Hatton and Margaret ?.

Thanks to everyone who replied!  After staring at it for quite some time, my feeling is that the name ends in a t.  This is why I thought it might be "Chestnut."  There was a Chestnut family living in Port Hope, Ontario at the time.  It's too bad that the name Marguerite is stretched out across the page while the last name got crammed at the end of the line! I already knew her name was Margueret. It definitely could be Chastenet or Chastanet as well.

This is the marriage of Margaret Hatton b. Oct 1945 in Port Hope, Ontario and James Edward Robertson b. Jul 1841 in Ontario.  It seems that James Edward Robertson was Catholic & Margaret Hatton was Anglican.  They had 2 marriage ceremonies in 1869 (one at the Anglican church in Montreal, Canada & one at the Catholic church in Montreal). The one that I posted is from the Catholic Cathedral St. Jacque-le-Mineur registry.  It is in the Quebec, Vital & Church Records (Drouin Collection) 1621-1967. The last name of Margaret written in this registry is the only clue that I have to her maiden name. Let me know if I left anything out.  Thanks!

Thank you. Those are good possibilities.  I was wondering if it might be Chestnut?  (If the mark after the name is a comma).

I'm trying to decipher the last name after Marguerite.  The entry is in French but I can read the name Samuel Hatton and the name Marguerite.  I think the slash after the name may actually be a comma. Any help would be much appreciated!
