Rosball, the links you have given me are amazing. ;D. The nieces and nephews are not from the families I know about so I am hoping they are from the missing sister :)  I have alot more searching to do but I cannot thank you enough for what you have directed me to. Thanks again.

Hi. I'm looking for help please as I'm at a loss as to how to research my great grand aunts who emigrated to Australia from Skibbereen, Co.Cork Ireland. There were 4 sisters but I'm not sure where they went so my information is very very vague.
Mary was born 30 March 1859.
Ellen was born 4 October 1863
Margaret was born 4 April 1868
Annie was born 10 Feb 1870.

I dont know any married names, although one may have married a doctor, named McCarthy, but thats not certain.

I have a picture of whom I believe may be Mary, with her children Maggie, Agnes and Mick. This was taken in Webb & Webb, 374 Hay Street, Perth.
I also have a wedding picture of Chris & Del, one who must be a niece or nephew, taken in the 1920's.
I am attaching both photos in the hope it rings a bell with someone!

If anyone could give me any guidelines as to where I should be searching, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Cath

Hi ..a little update as i have been successful in a few bits of this post. The wedding photo is of Christopher Mellor  and Madeline (Del) Tuohy. Christophers mother was my ancester Margaret.
Anne married James McVey, and Ellen married George HV Richardson. i'm still looking for Mary :(
I also found two brothers, John and Cornelius. John married Sophia Harrison and Cornelius died of fever and was unmarried. If any families of the above named people should read this, I would so love to contact them :). Thank you everyone for your help so far :)

Hi, its been a while but I finally had a breakthrough a few months back and I'm looking for a bit of advice again please! I found that Margaret,Ellen,Annie, John & Corneilus changed the spelling of their surname from Cahalane to Callaghan in Australia so thats why I couldn't find them :).
I am still hunting for Mary though, and wonder if anyone could give me a tip on how I could go about finding her,or who she married? I feel she may have had 3 children, possibly called Maggie,Agnes and Mick, but I am not definate on this, or that she may have married a Dr McCarthy, possibly in Perth but again thats only family folklore so I'm not sure on that either. I have tried various searches but haven't had any joy. Her parents would have been John Cahalane, a farmer, and Ellen Murphy. I did find a marriage for a Daniel McCarthy to a Mary Callaghan, but she is described as being a hoteliers daughter so feel thats not the right person. Thank you in advance and all suggestions welcome ;D
