There were 2 SEXTON families

Briefly:-
One was William Sexton, a Baptist Minister of Frogmore Street Chapel Tring. (Born c. 1805)
 - He and his wife Hannah recorded in Tring from at least 1851
 - Hannah Sexton died Dec 1867, age 59 - buried Tring.
 - Seems most of the family, incl William & Hannah, were born in Buckinghamshire.
 - William remarried - 2nd wife was Elizabeth (they're on 1871 census where Eliz is 20 yrs his jnr.
 - William Sexton, Baptist minister, died 21 Feb 1874. He was 68 yrs old. Buried Tring

The other William Sexton was usually recorded as a Labourer, born Hemel Hempstead (B: c. 1804)
 - Wm & family were recorded in Hemel Hempstead from at least 1841 onwards.
 - William's wife, Elizabeth (nee Anstree, banns in Hemel Hamp. 1823) on all census up to 1871...
 - This William & Elizabeth were the parents of the "Sexton Brown" children.

Check the details of the census in both Tring & Hemel Hemp. Those should confirm the 2 separate families.

Thanks so much Ian - greatly appreciate the effort and time you spent on this picture

Colouring always seems to highlight bits one missed seeing or noticing before.

I wonder if the OP has a copy of the original "young man" picture. It might be a better comparison.

That's beautiful Pat - thanks so much for spending your time and expertise on it.  :-*

Hadn't taken any notice of the dates mentioned  ::)

Thanks to Lisa's comment, the younger man appears to be abt 30 yrs old. If born 1802, that means the "young" photo was taken in 1832 ... and that's not very likely. Although the photo is very over filtered it does seem to be a photograph, not a painting, but I could be wrong.

Each to his own but I'd probably disagree - the eyebrow shape doesn't match

Great, thanks Gadget, it's gorgeous and a credit to you having been done on your laptop.
Eyestrain seems to be the norm these days. I once spent abt 10 days doing a very fiddley one and still haven't recovered.

Hi Carol - noticed you were AWOL  :D  Hope the holiday was fabulous. Can't think of a better thing to be doing in mid summer in UK - wish I was there!

Many thanks everyone
Di

That's beautiful work Peter - thank you so much  :-*

You're observant Ruskie. I hadn't noticed his hands. I thought that most of the family were farmers of one sort or another - maybe I need to reassess my assumption that he was a farmer as well.

The search continues ...

Oops almost missed your comment Tomkin - rushed or not, it was still lovely. Don't strain your eyes. I know how easy one can overdo the time spent (and eye strain) on a restorations.
Take care
