Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Re: Altoft or Altofts. Yorks.
« on: Friday 27 January 06 16:29 GMT (UK)  »
George was born 1874,75 or 76 depending on which census I look at but I think his full name was George Henry Brown. I found a reference to the same name in Dec qtr 1875 Pontefract and one for Wakefield in Sept qtr 1874 . The rest of Charles and Ruths children are not a problem but George Henry is proving difficult because of the place name. Thankyou for your time. I live in Germany so am unable to visit in person.

Could someone please tell me which district a birth would be registered in if the baby was born in Altoft or Altofts. Yorks. I have found my relative George Brown in Mexborough in 1881 but don't know which birth reference to look up. I have found Wakefield and Pontefract. Help please. Father Charles Brown mother Ruth nee Platts. I really would love to know his birth date. To the nearest quarter would be fine.

As part of a request for military records I have to obtain an obituary notice for John Myles Francis Crayton, died 1st March 1972, Great Crosby, Liverpool. Can anyone tell me where I can locate copies of the Crosby Herald? 'Jack' was a well known local publican. The George on Moor Lane, Royal Oak on Warren House Road and the Travelers Rest on New Ferry Road New Ferry Bebbington. He was also a boxer. I know nothing of his life as I  married his son after Jack was already dead. I am trying to compile a family history for my husband as a surprise but am getting nowhere with census records etc. Hence, am hoping to start with Crosby Herald. Would also love to hear from anyone who knew Jack from his Boxing or landlord days.   Please help. Josephine Crayton.
