Dinamboyz
My g.g.grandmother was Anne Lewis, married to Richard Jones a shoemaker and farmer of llangurig, they lived at Pentre, Llangurig.
I haven't been very successful with my Welsh side of the family far too many of the same name in the same villages

I've just gone on what I've been told.
But that does fit with her age and there is no other Rosa Ray born the same time on freebmd??
Any sign of Beatrice on the same ship?

South Africa / Ray sisters emigrated 1920's??
« on: Sunday 23 February 14 15:40 GMT (UK)  »
My great grannys two sisters moved to South Africa in we think 1920's.

Rosa Ray born 1892 Staffordshire
Beatrice Theresa Ray born 1894 Staffordshire

I have found these on NASA

1930 Illiquid case William Webb versus Rosa Webb (born Ray)
1931 William Webb, surviving spouse Rosa Webb (born Ray)

1950 Illiquid case, resolution of conjugal rights. Hendrik Barker and Beatrice Ray Barker born Stafford

I don't know if these are my Rays, can anyone help with where else I can go to find more inforamtion about them. I don't even know what date they went out on, or why?!

There was a visit over here in 1970's from a Vona Davies, I'm assuming she was a daughter of one of the sisters. And we have an address and a PO box to her. She lived in Durban then.

Any help will be very much appreciated
thanks

I can give you a few names that may have been there at that time

Sid Williams
Norah Halford
Edna Halford
Dorothy Williams

These all lived Dawley/Little Dawley so I assume they went to school at pool hill but then I think people would have travelled a bit to get there too as My Dad went to school there in the 60's/70's and he lived in leighton.

Shropshire / Re: Dawley address
« on: Saturday 20 March 10 21:14 GMT (UK)  »
I don't think it does. I did an address search on king street and couldn't see any named houses on the street just numbers. I also had a look on the old maps and quite a few houses aren't here anymore. A lot older houses still here though

Just to add my g.grandfather lived around the corner at 4 church road on the 1911 census. Maybe they knew each other. Everyone did know each other then, compared to now

I used to live in Jackfield and my friend lived in part of the Tuckies. I was told it was once one big house, its now split into 3 I think. Its an absolutley gorgeous building. No wall or floor in it is level and you can see all the beams. beautiful!
Have you looked at the Tuckies on old-maps.co.uk the biggest building is the one there now I don't think any of the others are still there but I think they all would have been known as the tuckies.

World War Two / What did he do??
« on: Monday 07 December 09 15:35 GMT (UK)  »
Hello
I would like some help in finding out what my grandad did in the war.
Here are his details
Philip Llewellyn Steele bn 2.7.1918 Leighton, Shropshire
We think he was a desert rat and a driver.
My dad thinks he went in 1940/41 and came home 42/43. Also that he was captured and was in a POW camp in Italy and came home on medical grounds.
I have a postcard somewhere from when he was in hospital over hear when he came back. I also have a postcard his mother sent him when he was at Kensington Barracks.
He never spoke of it much so what we know is very patchy.
So how can I find out more about him?
Thank you
Katie Steele
