Hallo and welcome to Rootschat. I think the number 1341781 is the number of the film you have to quote to the Latterday Saints if you wish to view the film at one of their centres. Alternatively (if you can reach these places in UK) you can view the film at the Family Record Centre in London or at Essex Record Office in Chelmsford.
I looked in 1891 Census. I could not find any John PLAYL who matched your details but at RG12/2613 folio 94 pages 21 and 22 parish of Saint James, Grimsby 14 Annesley Street I found
Arthur PLAYLE Head Married 28 Fisherman born Maldon, Ess?
Alice PLAYLE wife Married 22 born Spilsby, Lincs
Arthur PLAYLE son 1 born Grimsby Lincs
Henry PLAYLE son age 3 mths born Grimsby Lincs
I could not find Ellen Elizabeth PLAYL but in 1901 Census RG13/3092 folio 72 page 18 in parish of St Andrews, Grimsby 29 Garibaldi Street I found
Ellen Elizabeth PLAYLE Head Married 38
John Wm PLAYLE son  S 17 packing box maker
Alfred PLAYLE son 13
Lizzie E PLAYLE dau 11
Charles PLAYLE son 1
They were all born in Grimsby
I couldn't figure out for sure which particular person you were trying to find but I hope this helps

Thank You, Yes this is a help. Ellen Elizabeth is indeed the mother of my grandfather john William. The spelling of playle with or without the "e" seems to be optional whichever source you look. John William appears to have been Born without the "e", Married without the "e" yet did his service and died with the "e" Arthur Playle is the brother of John Playl. My father knew his grandfather came on the trawlers with his brother and they both settled in Grimsby, Giving rise to

Sorry my computer crashed! ..rise to all the playles in the modern Grimsby area. Arthur and his family being more prolific than John. I can only assume That John Playl was at sea during the 1901 census, or possibly dead although I haven't yet found his death record. Thank you for taking the time to read my post Lesley

It's likely that you already know this but this name crops up quite a lot in Essex searches and its variant includes PLAIL
And the website at www.mariners-l.co.uk may give useful leads to old registers in County Record Offices and PRO

Eva Heard b.1888 is my paternal grandmother. Sarah Jane Gowers b.1859 is my paternal great gramdmother. Maybe we have similar research. Regards N.

Thanks for the reply :)

Your people are a bit late form me :)

in 1791 Ann Gower married William Whitehead,  Ann was baptised in Stebbing Essex in 1762.

Martha Heard was born approximately 1735 and married Richard Pawsey in 1756 in Wethersfield.

Both of these lines are brickwalls.

Hello Cullen
sorry can't help I am sad to say ... my SMOOTHY's were 1690's when the line married into mine I ended research on that line.

I would suspect that you have checked Hugh Wallace's IGI site for the county of Essex and the town of Bocking.
