Remember that you are back in the 1850/60s and Nephew doesn't always mean what we expect today.

The term step son may not be in use and in-law used instead.  Nephew is a vague term implying a relation of the next generation not necessarily the son of a brother or daughter.  Its getting a bit late for these uses which were normal 50 years earlier but they should be born in mind.

This could mean that nephew in the census is nothing more than anticipating the marriage.

Slightly confused .... but gripped by this saga ;D

Do you have the marriage cert for Sarah Harrison & Samuel Bradbury?
This might provide some useful Harrison info - either through her father's name or any witnesses or another possible paper trail if they married by licence

I have just rechecked the 1861 Census entry & it looks like Sarah Harrison, who is acting as Samuel's house keeper, is listed as married - do you agree?  If that was the case, this should also be made clear on their marr cert - & might allow tracing of Sarah's previous marriage, George's birth certificate etc

I have had a quick look for the GRO reference for Samuel & Sarah's marriage on Ancestry, but no luck  :'(
.... before I search more seriously & thoroughly - do you already have it &/or do you think this is the way to go?

cheers
Rosemary ;)

Have you thoroughly searched birth records to see if there is a George Harrison AND a George Bradbury born in approx 1858-1863 in Hanley?

Getting one (or two) birth certs will confirm if there are 2 people or one, and who his/their father's were

Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

I've had a look for Sarah Tounsley (various spellings) in 41 but no sign of her anywhere in Staffs - there are Townleys in Hanley but no George. It is possible that although Sarah gives her father as George Tounsley she was actually illegitimate so went by her mother's name - not much help in tracking her down  ::)
I don't know why but have this strong feeling that she was Harrison before her possible marriage to Isaac. There is a Sarah Harrison  15  Potter in Hanley in 41  lodging with Aaron and Emmely (sic) Rawley, Aaron is a Potter.

We need that first marriage and to find Isaac in 51.

Suey -  Any sign of a Sarah marrying an Isaac Harrison circa 1851 on the BVRI?
