Re: Lazarus
Before your Longstaff's moved to Oz, were they one of the families of Longstaff butchers that moved to Monkwearmouth, Bishopwearmouth Sunderland?

I am researching my 5th great grandparents, John Longstaff married Eleanor Sanderson 29th Feb 1808 at St. Andrews Bishop Auckland. Their daughters moved to Sunderland.

Thanks Rewcastle.  I did go to the timesonline site but was unable to bring up anything regarding Meggisons. I look forward to any information from you.

Thanks again Rewcastle.
I found my Longstaff family,John, wife Mary Ann (Todd) and first children born Bishop Auckland on 1841 Census Newgate St but by 1850 they appear on the Census for New York.John was a painter and gilder.
In 1853 they arrived Melbourne Australia, went to the goldfields then known as Forest Creek.
Within a couple of years Mary Ann died and a daughter suicided by taking arsnic.Another daughter married (three times) whilst father and son moved to Maldon Victoria.
It appears some of the earlier generations were butchers.
Commencing with the 1767 marriage of George Langstaff to Margaret Parker a number of the family became inn keepers, coopers etc.
I am not yet aware of any family having moved to Sunderland.
St Andrews Auckland seems to have been where they were baptised or married.
Any help appreciated.

HI Lazarus

I dont know if you know but the IgI has covered the Auckland Andrew parish registers Quite well.. all of the marriages have been covered.. but there is a gap in the baptisms between 1653 and just pre 1747

all the burials have also been indexed for the parish at Durham Records Office...
