Hi Yvonne,

You will have to get used to my humour I am afraid!!  ;D

It was Historical Directorys - not directory inquiries - but it is really similar - it what Annie mention before!

I have superimposed the 2 photos  - what do we think?

Althought the directory was published in 1914 it would have been made up in the few years before - but it does narrow it down a bit. And we now know the name of the pub.

Now - the fire.......

I was just going to say Yvonne - you'd better let him get his breath back - after going through all the photo's !! ;) ;)

Good job Keith !! - I've been trying to magnify those signs - but I just can't get it!!

So if we knew when those photos were taken - it would narrow it down even more!!

Then Yvonne would have a better idea for doing newspaper research!!

Sorry - I missed off some information about the newspapers!!  ::)

The Collindale library - they have every newspaper that was printed - if you know the area that you need (which you do !) and you know an approx date - then Collingdale will have the newspaper !

Looking at it again - it looks like Tescos is where the Lion Pub was in 1908

I have been in touch with the local newspapers in Ware - before - and they say all their records are with HALS in Hertford.
