Senghenydd

Does anyone know where I can get information about colliery workers for Senghenydd?

My gt-grandfather worked in the Senghenydd pit, and I am told was involved in the disaster in 1913.  Thankfully he was not one of the poor victims on that day.

I have tried the Welsh Coalmines site, and a few others.  All provide lots of details about the disasters but not of the survivors.  I would be interested to know of any sources for the general workers at the pit.

Many thanks.

Hi Taffy Blue,

Have you tried the local newspapers for that period?  They generally cover these things very well, with lots of names of those involved (not just the victims). Many local history centres in libraries have a few local newspapers on fiche.  I have found them very useful and a great source of information.

Hi Ore Dragon,

Yeah I have thought about that one, but am assuming they will be in the local papers in the local area.  I, unfortunately live in North Wales not South, and am not able to get there.  I know my local libraries don't have those papers, only the ones local to us.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.  I will continue my search, and hope I get the chance to visit Glamorgan soon.   :)
