Hi Chris
I've exhausted all avenues that I know of, regarding a record of a birth. The birth year and town are recorded on later census', but nothing is found when researching the birth year on the internet.
The year is 1842 and the place Eastbourne, and it's my own personal 'brick wall' Thomas Ticehurst. Surely a birth would be registered somewhere, although I understand there was no legal requirement to do so at that time.
Where else would I need to look ?

Do you have an address of a relevant records office covering the town, which may have a birth or christening record. ?
Regards
John

Chris, Would like to request a birth/baptismal lookup in Lewes for the following two.  Searches through the IGI and freeBMD have not been successful.  I realize in your intro that you did say 'some' records, so here's hoping these two are there!
William b.c1881, and Elizabeth Adams b.c1885, parents Charles and Martha Adams.
with thanks, meg

Hi there meh

Do not have access to any Birth Records here at home - but I did transcribe the Baptism Registers at St John Sub Castro as well as the burial Registers with the following results:

1878 Apr   26, Adams Flora, f, dau of Bevness Caroline, Chichester, Gentleman
1881 Apr 3, Adams William, m, son of Charles Martha, OTP, Labourer Railway
1884 Jul 6, Adams Elizabeth Mary, f, dau of Charles Martha, John Street, Booksellers Agent

1903 Oct   25, Adams Grace Martha, f, William Frances Elizabeth, 56 Craigerne Rd, Blackheath, Bombardier R.A.
1908 May   17, Adams William Cecil, m, William Frances Elizabeth, 14 West St, Sergeant Royal Artillery

Most baptisms were performed within 1 month of birth.

Once again, years of hard work toiling over parish registers has been rewarding

Chris, I am indeed a lucky recipient of your years of hard work and am very thankful.  I am far flung from any family history or library centres so am truly grateful for your kind generousity in sharing the fruits of your labour!
This Adams lot are mine, with the exception of Flora, and now off to fill in the details on the family tree! Thanks again, meg

Hi Meg

Glad to be able to help you.

I have only just realized that the address given in the burial registers for Martha & Charles at the time of their deaths is also the same for your bombadier William in the RA at the time of christening of William Cecil.

Am in Lewes tomorrow, If I have time I will locate 14 West Street and 7 Lancaster Street and take some piccy's to e-mail to you

Meg

Number 7 Lancaster Street, Lewes.

As you can see, it still bears the marks/scars of an 'Odle World Sweet Shop' with its bay shop window.
Lancaster Street runs alongside southern perimiter of the Graveyard of St John Sub Castro - you can almost go out of the back garden of No 7 into the Churchyard.

Hope you like

Hi again meg

Number 14 West Street, Lewes

Most of the houses on the even numbered side of the street have been demolished and the land used as a car-park.
The first building 'The Needle Factory' still stands (converted into small shop and business units) and then the next building is number 14 west Street.

Its a grand 3 storey house with unusually only one central window on each floor - plus you can see where No 12 butted on to the side of No 14.

The front of the building is covered in what are called 'Mathmatical Tiles'

Hope the picture gives you pleasure
