Hi Chris,

I have a starting & end point for one of my Wallis family but can not find him in between. He was one of 11 from John & Ann (Austen) Wallis, m 1799,  from Lamberhurst/Ticehurst.

1.Thomas Wallis Ch 1799 Lamberhurst. Died 1872 Ticehurst Workhouse, no info from death cert.

I have checked the 1801, 31, 41, 51 Census for Tice/Lamberhurst without luck so for him so he obviously worked out of the Parish but likely not to far away...unless he was in the army perhaps.

Would it be possible to check the surrounding Parish's for him in 1851 other than Vol 11, 12 & 13 of the C. J. Barnes copilation.

Regards,
John

Hi John

Not good news I am afraid.

I have checked all 23 volumes of the June Barnes 1851 Census transcription without success for you Thomas Wallis aged about 51/52.

There were only 3 Thomas Wallis's aged 18, 63 and 64 - so obviously to young and to old.

I do not hve volume 24 which is on fiche and covers:
Vol 24 - Brighton area (Hove, Preston, Patcham, West Blatchington, Hangleton, Portslade, Aldrington, Southwick, Old Shoreham) by Eastbourne Family Roots – 2 Fiche £3.80.

Sorry I can not help

Hi Chris,

Thank you for your time, much appreciated. I am surprised that Thomas Wallis only turned up three times, at least that gives me some hope knowing the name is not all that common.

John

Hi Chris,
I was hoping you could look up Edward Henty born in 1831 in Piddinghoe. He was either in Piddinghoe or Newhaven in 1851. His father was Philip, mother Elizabeth.
           Thanks
               Michelle.

Looking for Henty and Wilding - in Sussex.
Fryer and Stride - in Portsea, Hampshire.
Feakins - in Isle of Sheppey, Kent.
Hawkins - in Faversham, Kent.
Arnold - in Alton, Hampshire.
Venn, Alfrey(Alfred), Ste(a)dman and Gibbons in Surrey.

Hi there Michelle

According to the Junes Barnes 1851 Census transcription; the information you want is as follows:

HO107/ 1643/ Folio 746/ Page 88 – Newhaven.

HENTY  Phillip, Head, Marr, 39, Ag Lab, born Chalvington, Sussex ?
Elizabeth, Wi, Marr, 50, Piddinghoe, Sussex.
Edward, Son, Unm, 20, Ag Lab, born Piddinghoe.
Phillip, Son, Unm, 17, born Piddinghoe.
Wiliam, Son, Unm, Shipwrights Appr, born Piddinghoe

Have not got an exact address, Folio 743 and 744 are Blue Anchor, 745 is Ship Inn, but all we have for 746 is Newhaven Village.

Hope that aids your research

Hi again Chris,
Thank you so much. I had found a birth of a Philip Henty in Chalvington in 1801 and didn't know if he was the one I was looking for. Now I know he is the right one, I can go back even further with the Henty's.

Hey, Hang on a moment

"I had found a birth of a Philip Henty in Chalvington in 1801 and didn't know if he was the one I was looking for. Now I know he is the right one, I can go back even further with the Henty's."

If Phillip was born / baptized in 1801 - then by the time of the 1851 census he would have been 49 or 50 depending on which side of the census date his birthday fell.

The Phillip Henty (as transcribed in the 1851) was only 39

Do you have any other info to substantiate it being your Phillip

Chris,
Sorry, maybe I'm jumping the gun a bit. Could you please tell me why you have put a question mark next to the age for Phillip Henty senior? I know that sometimes ages, even names are put in wrong on certain records - I have come accross this myself a few times already. Perhaps I assumed too much when I first read your earlier reply, but now I have had a look at the other details, they do lead me to believe that I have the correct birth for this Phillip Henty.

First of all, there was no question mark on the 1851 census transcription, I put it in, (possibly in the wrong place) for three reasons.

1. He is 39, when he should be 49 ?
2. a 39 year old with a wife of 50 ?
3. Has a son of 20 - making him a very early father

Was just asking if you had any further proof that this was definitely your Phillip by tieing his age up with other archive material.

Didnt want to alarm you at all

Chris in 1066Land

PS. -  I have now moved the question mark to the correct place.
