Yes audrey i did try it before but they dont have any Info on Antrim or Down. I could always try Armagh though since one of the siblings William born 1860 married in Armagh in 1882/3. which is another reason i was thinking about the Gilford connection because its right next to Armagh.

Thank you again for all your help I really appreciate it.

Hiya Colette,

Would any of your Doyles have worked in the linen mills? There was a big mill at Gilford.
http://www.geocities.com/craigavonhs/rev/campbellgilfordmills.html Those Doyles about whom you know nothing ... you have dates of birth. Were they born in Belfast? If they were born in Gilford they fall into the right age group to have moved to Greenwich, New York when a new mill was opened there in 1880 by the people who owned the mill in Gilford. The population of Gilford decreased by 50% at that time.

Now theres a thought Chris i looked at that site before and didnt even think of that.
I did notice a bit on it where it says

In a letter from an emigrant to his uncle, Mr. James Beck, he mentioned that  it also seems strange that Common work hands in that country get but £15 or £20 per annum and that Archabald and you get so large salaries."

Well in 1840 an Archibald Beck (spelled Back on the record) was sponsor of Sarah Jane Doyle at her Baptism on the 24th of Feburary.

So who was the Archibald that the Emigrant Nephew of James Beck was talking about? was it the Sponsor of sarah Doyle?

Hiya Colette,

Have you mentioned Beck before? If you have I have not picked up the point. It is possible that Archibald was the sponsor. There was a Beck in Banbridge in recent years owned a garage in Newry Street I think it is called. The far side of the bridge. Mrs Beck had a lovely gift shop specialising in glass and china. I do not know if they were the same connection. I thought they were Presbyterians or CofI.

Hi there Collette , I hope you are still on this site...

It seems that in your research you mentioned a Thomas Doyle born 17/10/1852.. I think this might be my great grandfather who lived in Gilford..The 1911 and 1901 census show this..look for in 1911 census house no 2 New row Gilford and in 1901 its house 40 Knocknagor Tullylish Down..My fathers mum was Thomas,s daughter , she was Mary Catherine doyle who married joseph Finnegan From Gilford. Hope this helps and that you can help me too in finding Thomas,'s father
Thank you
