Hi Everyone,
I am new to this particular chat but not genealogy chatrooms. I am looking for a needle in a haystack.
I am looking for any information on where Daniel DUFF was born and who his mother was. I know from the marriage cert. of Daniel who his father was. I also have his father on the 1851 Dublin directory. The family just suddenly shows up from nowhere. I even checked Scotland without any luck since DUFF could be a Scottish surname.
In 1851, Daniel's father, John, was listed as living at 221 Great Britain Street.
In 1857 Daniel marries Jane BURROWES (BURROWS, BURROUGHS). Her father is Thomas BURROWES, shoe maker. Mother's name, unknown. John DUFF was listed on certificate as cabinet maker. He may have been making the cabinets that clocks went into so was listed as cabinet maker instead of clock maker.
Shortly after the 1871 census, Daniel, Jane, and their children moved to Salford, Lancashire, England. I have all the information on Daniel and his family to 1901 when Daniel passed away in Lancashire.
According to death certs. and all census records from Lancashire, Daniel was born 1834/35 and Jane was born 1837/38. The census records only mentioned Ireland as their birth place. No other place or city was mentioned.
I do not know if the names of the children would hold any clue as to the family lineage backwards. I know Scotland had a naming pattern but I do not know about Ireland. Also, my DUFF and BURROWES were Anglican. Daniel and Jane were married at St Catherine's Anglican Church on Thomas Street. The names and dates of birth for their children were as follows. All but the last four children were born in Dublin. The last 4 were born in Manchester, Lancashire, England.
William Henry 1860
James 1861
John 1864
Alfred 1866 (my gr. grandfather)
Frederick Charles 1868
Thomas Arthur abt. 1870
Samuel 1872
Daniel, Jr. 1874
Edward John 1875
Sarah Jane 1880
Thanks for any help in trying to get this family back. Finding Daniel's and Jane's mothers names would really help a lot and also finding where they were born. Anything would be wonderful. No one in my family even knew my gr. grandfather had siblings or who his parents were. I did not find anything until the 1881 census came out on Familysearch.
