Kia Ora Alley Cat
Well hate to admit it but my CD fell off the back of waka.... in Melbourne!
I've now looked more closely at your list and the Scown family married into mine in Taranaki they are/were a well known farming family.
What dates were looking at? I haven't recorded their history but could possibly give you a few leads if you want!
Cheers
Marlene

G'day Marlene, since my posted message I found out that there is a book in the pipeline being written on the Scown family as we speak.  Link to huge website below:-

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~scownancestry/sca.html

I was surfing the web one day with the express intention of finding out about the Scown family after my mother-in-law handed me all her family tree paperwork.  {This was after she found out how much of an internet fiend I am and how good I am at doing the family tree.}  ;D Nevertheless, I found this website, and I thought what are the chances of this enormous family tree having links with my MIL?  Yep, it's got her ggg grandparents in there etc.  Couldn't believe it.  And all the Scowns all over the place are pretty excited about having more additions to the book.  And all the descendants here in Aussieland are going to be in the book too.  Phew.  And they nearly missed out by a hair's breadth.

Have a look at the site, perhaps your lot are in there too.  Please let me know how you get on.  TT4N Ally.

Gidday
Mine are too recent! Father was All Black his daughter an Olympic Gold Medallist!
Both still very much alive and I don't know the names further back. That's why I offered to scout around for you!
The mother of the medallist was my mother's first cousin so we share the "First Family"!!
What a boon that must be for you. I always get depressed as one finds so many errors usually. My research is not going anywhere until I am ready to publish in hard copy!
Good luck
Marlene

Hey there Marlene, Oh well, better luck next time.  But it sounds like the living relations are much more exciting in your case.

Thank you for the offer of help, I do appreciate it.

I would have been very excited about the Scowns if they were my ancestors, but they're my mother-in-law's ... and my NZ hubby was adopted at birth.

I can't see why you don't know any more names further back.  You should, and it's not that hard.  I've gone back to 1700s on most lines and 1600 on one, and 1480 on our best one.  All carefully documented with sources etc.

Have you tried http://www.familytreecircles.com/ ?  And when doing genealogy, one is never finished!  ;)

Dear Telephonist, Hi. It's hard to say re LOWE connection to the ones you speak of as have only gotten the LOWE line back to 1883 Daisy Blossom LOWE, her parents names unknown.  She married 1899 Llewellyn Joseph MILLS NZ and had 6 children.

Hi alleycat,

In answer to surnnames of interest in N.Z. We have a Tremain family in Hawkes Bay. The late father of the person I Know was Kelvin Tremain an All Black in 70s/80s.
The person I know is Chris. Tremain who is at present our National Party rep. for Napier. He is a young man of about 37. I think they came to H.Bay from the Auckland area.

Regards, Kiwicousey.

My email address is not working at the moment sorry.

Dear Kiwicousey, Hi there.  I checked my PAF (Personal Ancestral File) and it looks like two TREMAIN siblings married two HILL siblings and.or relations.

Claude Albert HILL died 1945, married 1915 to Blanche Murtagh TREMAIN died 1937 or 1953.

Hazel Gertrude HILL born 1891, married 1920 to Norman Londale (Landale) sic TREMAIN.

My connection is Martha Emma HILL d.1926 (spouse's great grandmother) who married 1909 John William HOMEWOOD d.1969.

I am looking for Adam Mckenzie (Mackenzie ) who sailed to New Zealand in 1877with his wife Isabella

I cannot find the death of Adam as I know Isabella came back to England about 1888 to 1893 .
They sailed on the Canterbury from Glasgow in the September and arrived at Port Chalmers in the December

All their children were born in Mornington Dunedin
