Hi,

Have you any idea what nationality he was?

no the only clue i have is to how his daught signed her name Starlight Defianie valleeter Lé Garde need to find her death in the hope it will give a place of birth as it looks like she wasn't in the UK in 1901 and finding her death is hard as we don't know any thing about her  other then the marriage we found and she married a JONES.

Hello alswilson,

Have you looked at the Master mariners on the Occupation Interests board. I tried Genforum to see if there was a Le Garde board on that site ... it only has a board for the Garde surname.

There's a short list of Sea Captains on Wikipedia.

Christopher

The name is slightly unusual to say the least. Have you tried searching for births and deaths with just the first name 'Starlight' in case she was born with another surname and remarried and died under one as well?
My first impression is that she might have been born somewhere 'foreign'- U.S., Canada, etc. or that is might have been a stage name of some sort.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi,

Are you still seeking details concerning Starlight? If so I can help! She was my wife's grandmother and had a very interesting life - let me know what you're after.

Regards,

Dave

My wife, Anita, will drop you an email at your personal mail address later in the week. We know a fair bit but there are also gaps elsewhere in the family tree so maybe we can help each other out.

My favourite piece of info is that Starlight travelled with Buffalo Bill's Wild West show and was part of the knife throwing act.
