Jane,
I followed the Cragg family from 1901 knowing this to be the right family.Jesse Cragg being Great Grandfather born Cowfold all his children born Keymer. Jesse's wife was Fanny Barnett. born Horsham. found him and his family right through census 1891,1881,1871 also 1861 and to 1851 when he was 10mths old. which by then the family was Bolney. I could not find any trace of Jesse 10mths. parents in the 1841 census. infact the only Cragg I noticed for the area of Bolney was Richard and Jane. so I  thought that Richard may have been Jesse's dad's father,Richard being a farmer and Jesse's dad was a farmer of 30 acres  in the  1851. looks as though I may have thought wrongly then with the Richard.
JUNE.

Looking at the index for 1851 for Bolney the two familys  are - HO107 1642
F 356  address Willcocks is John age 44 and Mary 36 both b Bolney with Jesse, whose place of birth is given as Cowfold, Albert age 4 and Thomas 6, William 10 all b Cowfold, Richard 12 and Grace age 14 b Twineham.
F 324 address Brooklands is Richard Cragg with the Walder family.
There is also an Isaac Crayg age 48 b Twineham F 326
John was farming 38 acres and Employing 1 man.   I wonder if he left a will?

Have you looked at the familysearch site?   Batch number P014251 on the IGI has various children for Richard and Jane Cragg baptised in Bolney.    Keziah, John, Ann and Mary - all baptised on the same day in 1811.  That makes it difficult to confirm ages but does put you on the right track for John being a son of Richard and fits with the witnesses at the marriage of Mary and James Walder.

Hi June,
Working with the information Andrea found on the LDS it looks like there was a marriage between a Richard Cragg & a Jane.  There's also a possibility that one of those earlier marriages might have been a first marriage for Richard, just keep that in mind  :)
From the LDS children of Richard Cragg & Jane;

Ann born 13/7/1804
John born 27/1/1805
Mary born 9/1807
Keziah born 8/5/1809

All baptised Bolney.

John marry's;

Bolney, West Sussex,    2 Jan 1834:
 John CRAGG, bach
Mary PETERS, sp botp (B)

These are the parents of Jesse.

John & Keziah are witnesses to their sisters (Mary) marriage.
Just need to find this marriage of Richard to Jane which didn't happen in Sussex or rural Surrey (I checked the index)

You can check for wills on the National Archives site.  Also check the Access to Archives (A2A) site as it has numerous references to the name CRAGG in Sussex.
I'll get back to you if I find this Richard/Jane marriage,

jane

Many Many thanks to you Jane for all of this, turned out a good guess on my part with Richard and Jane in 1841. the reason I thought he was the John's father was the farming connection.

The family seems to have been tenant farmers in the area.  I've looked on pallots marriage index & LDS for that marriage, but nothing  :(  They might have married somewhere like Lambeth or Southwark or perhaps the city itself like many of my bunch.
Just to round things out, this is Kezia's marriage,

Bolney, West Sussex,    9 Apr 1832:
 Kezia CRAGG, sp
 John READ, bach botp (B)

Happy Hunting,

jane

Thank You Jane, I shall have a look on my Hampshire parish records as there are a few Cragg people on there in the early years, you never know they may have both been from Hampshire ,got married there and moved into sussex to be farming tenants,
