When was this taken as my John died 1817

John Gair, a miner, and mate of the deceased said they were going to set up camp at the ferry for the night. A double barrel gun was lying on the top of some swags, and the deceased took hold of the gun by the muzzle, and, when he was pulling it off the dray, the trigger must have caught in something, for the gun went off and shot him.
