SEARLE family in Bishop's Stortford area in 18thC
« on: Thursday 16 November 06 18:53 GMT (UK) »
Hi, Everyone,
A bit of a long shot, this one, but I've discovered that a family I had thought were from the Saffron Walden area on the Cambs/Essex border may indeed have originated from Hertfordshire.
On IGI there is a marriage of a John Ginn SEARLE and an Ann BROWN on 14-09-1752 at St Michael's Bishop's Stortford.  I know from his death entry in a Chapel notebook that he must have been born in 1730 or 1731.
So has anyone come across a pocket of SEARLE's in the Bishop's Stortford area in the 18thC or before, or even a baptism in 1730/1 of an individual with this rather unusual second forename...?
Very best wishes,
keith

Keith,
Thanks so much for pointing that entry out for me.  Who is "Jericho", exactly, is he/she a Rootschatter?

Hi Keith,
Jericho is a RootsChatter and she is following a Searles line but I'm not too sure if there would be a link to your Searles, possibly some sort of relationship though.  Follow the link below, it will give you an idea about Jericho's research.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,53813.0.html

Jerichos's line leads back to Henry Searles who was baptised 19 Feb 1797 Felsted, Essex, he eventually moved to Hertfordshire.  It would be a good idea to contact her though because she may have info on your Searles.

Regards.

Findem,
Thanks very much for pointing directing me towards Jericho.  I'm definitely struggling with this SEARLE family pre-1730, though I've had an exciting link-up with another Rootschatter on an Essex thread who is descended from the line I am researching beyond that date...
Very best wishes,
keith

Hi Keith,
If your Searles quest leads you back to Essex (from Herts) and you hit a brick wall, feel free to contact me.  I have quite a bit of Essex Searles info, both of my line and some that are not.  I am also in touch with other Essex Searles researchers, some of whom are still not on RootsChat in spite of my constant urging  :o

Best of luck with your research

Findem,
I'm presently in contact with Reilly, another Rootschatter, about the SEARLE's of Saffron Walden - fascinating stuff it is too - and I'll PM you later today.  Now off on a trail of discovery in London, catching the train in about half an hour.  Will be in touch...
Very best wishes,

Hi Keith,

In 2006 you were looking for a "pocket of Searles in Bishops Stortford", I've just had contact by a friend and fellow researcher who mentioned a Henry Searles born Felsted 1797, married in Sawbridgeworth and raised quite a few children in B S, it rung a bell, I knew I had read or been in contact with person/s who were interested in the Herts line of Searles, a search of my posts revealed your name.

The guys name is Pete Rosseter, have you been in contact with him?

Regards
