I have been reading through the Irish Boards for almost 2 days now

and I think it's going to be a long hard slog trying to check up on my grand-parents and their family roots in Ireland (maybe the Welsh side might throw some light on this subject).
He was born James BROPHY (in Ireland) and was married to Anna Maria EDWARDS (born in Wales). I have no dates of birth for either one of them except that I have an idea that both of them may have been born sometime between 1880 and 1890. I also don't know if he was married before he emigrated to South Africa. My grand-parents had about 13 children and I don't know if the older ones were born in Ireland or Wales, either. My mother was the last child and she was born in South Africa along with a few of the other siblings.
I have a photograph of my grand-father with the photographer's address on the back, which shows it was taken in Penzance

. So I have no idea where to start looking for my (maternal) grand-parents' history.

This information might come in handy for anyone else researching this family line somewhere down the track so I don't feel that it is a complete waste of time. Never know who might find what eh !!
I think I will start checking passenger lists and see what gems I can find.
I will wait for any news ........................... but I'm not holding my breath - hahaha.

Regards
