WW1 Uniform - Can Anyone Help?
« on: Tuesday 09 January 07 21:35 GMT (UK) »
I have this picture of an ancestor of mine.  We think it is Vincent Manning and that the photo was taken during WW1, but I would be grateful if anyone could help me with the uniform as I am hoping to go to Kew in February and would very much like to research his army record.  Unfortunately I do not have very much information, so any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Wendy,

Yes, I was at Northampton and it is good to hear from you.

It is a great photograph and I feel it would be a shame not to find out a bit more about him.

Hi there,

He appears to be a Second Lieutenant in the Machine Gun Corps.

Good luck.

Hi,

Having searched various websites, I wasn't sure if it was the Machine Gun Corps uniform, but now you have confirmed this for me it gives me a fighting chance of finding his records.

Thanks for your help! :)

Hi harribobs,

The Manning family I am researching would be from Naseby, Brixworth area and I do not appear to have a Victor Lionel Manning.  In fact I wish I had as you have given me some superb information.  There is however a questionmark over the christian name as I have found a William Thomas Manning that is a possibility on the National Archives website who was a second lieutenent in the Machine Gun Corps and his father would be Joseph Manning.  Sorry I don't have any more definite information.

Kind regards
