Hi again

Anne ..I just can't find a connection of your family to that of Captain Scott.

I googled Edward Adrian Wilson:
Born in Montpellier Terrace, Cheltenham on 23 July 1872
Second son and fifth child of physician Dr Edward Thomas Wilson (1832–1918) and his wife, Mary Agnes, nιe Whishaw (1841–1930)
He married Oriana Souper on 16 July 1901
Died 29 March 1912(1912-03-29) (aged 39), Antarctica

There is a family tree on Ancestry which had Edward Clarkson Wilson ...it seems to be well documented:
basic info:
Edward Clarkson Wilson:
1871, 22 Feb, Baptism
North Shields, Nbl.
Parents; John Wilson 1835 – 1901 and Margaret Ellis Scott 1836 – 1890

Margaret Ellis Scott:
1836, 3 Jan Baptism
Alnwick, Northumberland, England  St Pauls Church
parents:Charles Scott (1809 – 1873) and  Mary Charlton (1810 – 1872) both b Northumberland
Charles Scott b 1809 s/o  Joseph Scott (1780 –) and   Eleanor Arthur (1783 – )

John Wilson 1835, Northumberland s/o George Wilson (1813 – 1882) and  Mary Ann Armstrong (1814 – 1839)
George Wilson b 1813 s/o George Wilson (1777 – 1826) and  Esther Elgie (1781 – 1864)

There is more if you need it

Hi Anne

I was looking at The birth registrations for John and Ann Scott's children ,,,

I found this interesting one:
John Bruce Scott 1873, west Derby

Then in a newspaper article:
Liverpool Mercury Tuesday, December 6, 1881
Births
SCOTT, Nov 22 at 47 Harlow street, The wife of Captain JOHN BRUCE SCOTT, a daughter.

In 1901 we have a daughter of John and Ann :
Sarah dau 21 school teacher b ditto

also in 1881 they were living at 49 Harlow Street

so now we have John Scott's full name  ;D

will search some more

hi deb,

gosh what a lot of information. it will take me ages to decipher it all.  i notice R F Scotts wife's maiden name was Kathleen Bruce, aka Lady Kathleen Kennett. not sure if it is any help tho'.

would it help to know my grandmother's name - Doris Annie Sogno nee Wilson to confirm the Annie Wilson nee Scott connection? my gran was born in liverpool. (sorry i haven't found her b m d dates yet)

I will spend some tonight and tomorrow working out just what information you have given me. hopefully it will all be easier by monday lol.

thanks again

Rachel  :)

Rachel >...I am so sorry ...I have been calling you Anne ...not sure why ...maybe because of Annie Scott and her mum Ann ... :-[ :-[

anyway ...I am sure you will figure out all the info ...The easiest way in the beginning is to draw a family tree ...

Can you tell me what stories you heard re Captain Scott?

The tree that I mentioned on ancestry  with all the details of Edward Clarkson Wilson is the Sogno Family tree ...so it seems someone in your family has been researching for a while.
There is mention of Doris marring Hubert Sogno.

Hi Deb,
no problem, i've been called a lot worse lol! I have started a family tree through 'Family Tree Builder' (free version)

i think my auntie Helene Sogno's second husband James Crutchfield has been tracing the sogno family tree. i met them briefly at my brother's wedding in 2009. i will get in touch with them to see what else they have 'dug up' on the ancestors! I am sure Helene was one of the people who told me of the Captain Scott connection.  Another favourite story was that James Herriot (the actor)was a childhood friend of my Mum, she had really beautiful long blonde hair and James cut if off lol!!! he is not a relative tho'.

I would really like to follow up on my father's side of the family. Dr Eric William John Brown b 21 Mar 1931, it will be his 80th birthday in a few weeks I should love to be able to show all his ancestors on a family tree at his party. his father was married twice, my father's mother died when he was only 6. His Dad was called William Brown and he was a mounted Policeman for the Met.  William's second marriage was to Pat (Cushie) Brown nee Browne from Ireland.  i wonder if you would mind giving me a 'kick start' for this one too. Dad has given me some old photo's, I will look them out over the weekend and see if he has labelled any of them.

Thanks so much Deb you are brill!!!

Rachel

Hi Rachel,
I am researching a Wilson family tree for a friend and her grandfather was an Edward Clarkson Wilson, but i'm not sure if its the same man. Her mother was and Edna May Wilson. I've been trying to find them in 1911 without much luck so far. Does this seem to be the same family?
Best Wishes
Wayne

Dear Guy
I have found that my ancestor Edward Clarkson Wilson was not the same person as the explorer.  However, I had a great aunt Edna May Wilson. Married to Bruce Wilson, she had three children namely Patricia, Rhona and Pamela. I have not expanded this branch of the family as yet but they lived in Rottingdean near Brighton West Sussex UK.  Let me know if you think there is a match :-)
