Yes, pebige, I will get as much as I can find about your family + parents + children etc. I will also check for wills as Walter and Jessie died in Brisbane. Wills often can't be found, but it's worth a try.
Wish me luck!

pebige, just a quick question - do you have details of your family before they came to Australia - names, dates of arrival, immigration information etc? Only asking because I could check immigration records for you as well if you like. I'll need some forenames and dates though as there will be many Hopkins.

No I dont have any details of walter except his birthdate which is also in question, my mother seems to think that  he "jumped ship" and she said it was a sailing ship. In the 1881 england census I found a walter hopkins who was working on a ship. She  also says that he drew a block in the return serviceman land lottery after the first world war, and they walked of it after the prickly pear cactus invasion.

I also found a walter hopkins born in balham, in the 1871 england census, he was in the union workhouse, and i have no idea how to trace his parents.

Walter frederick Hopkins born balham 1861?
Jessie Irene Ockelford born brisbane 1881-1845
George walter Hopkins born brisbane 1914-1971 {son}
??Hector Ernest?? Hopkins born 1915-?{son}

I know that Walter and Jessie married in 1908

hello  theer
if you search the BMD on line
you will see that Jessie Irene Ockelford was born in Qld in 1881 to Albert Ockelford and Eliza Frances Renton

you may have allready done this 8)

going by his DOB from his death  he would have been rather old for a soldier in WW1

regards Jenn

Just looking at the info posted by Jenn ... do you know if Jessie's parents were born in Australia or elsewhere? If so where?

I'll see what I can dig up tomorrow.
