I'm just looking at a Ratcliffe line and have lost them on the 1851 census. Can anyone else spot them?
Ephraim RATCLIFFE born c. 1824, Tockholes (near Darwen), Lancashire
Married Margaret ENTWISTLE 1848
Married Alice BROWN 1867
Children:
William Henry RATCLIFFE born c. 1842-5, Darwen
Sarah A RATCLIFFE born c. 1849, Darweb
Alfred RATCLIFFE born c. 1853, Darwen
Esther RATCLIFFE born c. 1856, Darwen
Richard RATCLIFFE born c. 1864, Darwen
Margaret RATLIFFE born c. 1868, Darwen
I have Ephraim & family on the 1841 (HO107/503, book 7, fol. 8,page

, the 1861 (RG9/3109; Folio: 130; Page: 48), the 1871 (RG10/4188; Folio: 58; Page: 4), the 1881 (RG11/4203; Folio: 35; Page: 12), the 1891 (RG12/3415; Folio 119; Page 22) and the 1901 (RG13/3921; Folio: 146; Page: 22).
It is so annoying that I can't find them on the 1851!
Also the 1851 might give a clue as to a possible relationship between two Ratclife families on the 1861 census (RG9/3109; Folio: 130; Page: 48). Ephraim and his family is living next door to a James RATCLIFFE, born in 1811, Tockholes.
On the 1841 census, the (presumably) parents of Ephraim is called James, and that, together with the fact that both Ephraim and this 1811 James both give their birthplace as Tockholes makes me think there's a relationship, but I've been unable to trace it. Can't find them on Lancashire OPC or the IGI.
Any help gratefully received!
