Hi

I thought I would retrace my steps again

IGI gives us this for Children of John Sheer and Jane (although in 1841 Jane and John are living in Penzance their children are shown in 1851 to have been born all over the place...some in St Blazey, St austell, Sithey, Lanlivery and Trywardeath. )

okay here goes

IGI

ELEANOR Sheer  2 oct 1825 St Blazey
Robert Sheer 1 oct 1826 St Blazey
ann Sheer  3 aug 1828 St Blazey
Mary Sheer  6 april 1834 Lanlivery
William Prinn Sheer  2 feb 1834 Lanlivery
Richard Tarkett Sheer 27 oct 1842  Tywardreath

with the first 2 children being Eleanor and the Robert I would say the chances of John Sheer b 1797 being the s/o Robert Sheer and Eleanor Petters (married 2 april 1789) is GOOD!

what do you think ?

deb
I will look for  Eleanor Sheer b 1825, in 1841 , she may be a servant somewhere or even married  ::)

Kris ...

You are great  ;D ... what do you make of Richard's middle name ... Terkritt/Tarkreet... there are so many variations ..... what do we do with this ... It has to link in with someone ... I cannot fathom what the name could be ...

Hi Deb,

Guess it could have come from anywhere in their history or even just a mark of respect for someone they knew. The name is very uncommon anywhere in British Isles by the look of it.  On the IGI I do find some Turket, Tarket mainly Surrey, Sussex, London. There is one marriage in Devon

John TERKETT = Sarah CREWS 19 Nov 1775 Saint George, East Stonehouse Devon a daughter Susanna TARKIT and also see mention (Submitted) of another Susanna in 1827 - probably grand child. I see nothing at all on this name anywhere in Cornwall.

FreeBMD there is the death of a Richard Terkick in E Stonehouse 1838 and a Richard and Ann Turkett in Plymouth 1849 - same ref  :-\  very little around Cornwall and Devon. There are a couple of Terkitt Marriages in Cornwall, death of a Margaret Jane Turkitt aged 33 in 1870 we get to close to 1900 and a couple of Torkeets. Very little 1841 or 1851 Cornwall or Devon under any variant or in the OPC database

BTW I see two boys were baptised 27 Oct 1842 William and Richard Tarkitt Sheers

Cheers Kris  :D

Hiya deb,Toni* & Kris i will have to write all these topics out at some point and to thank you for being so kind in hunting about for Sheers and what have you.   I did find this marriage at Calstock 21 June, 1792 John Shears & Rosamund Spears b o t p also found as Sheers & Spare.  Banns .W- John Prout & Elizabeth Kenton.

Amm still hunting aboot for John Sheer`s bap unless he wasn`t bap  ;D so for definate we will know the parents,  there sure is some funny names but interesting like Turkett, it might be foreign :)  amm going to have a hunt about again.  Many many thanks.   gladys  :) :)

Hi Gladys,

Sorry I haven't been able to locate a baptism. Like Debs I do feel Robert and Eleanor are the likely parents with the naming of John's Children Robert and Eleanor. (Far less common than John and Jane) With Robert and Eleanor's Children being baptised in Menheniot I have to wonder if John is there but the entry perhaps is unreadable and looking at the register yourself you may be able to see enough of the entry to know it is him. Worth a try anyway. Of course he just may be the child who was not baptised.  :-\

Good Luck.............Kris  :D

Hiya Kriss,   thats what i thought yesterday Robert Sheers and Eleanor will be Johns parents  as i looked from A to Z Hugh Wallis`s Genealogy IGIs and i did find a few Sheers and found this William bap at Menheniot 1794 Sep 16 father Robert Sheers mother Ellinor which i guess she is Eleanor Petters, could John be the brother of William as they both have Honor, Mary, William.  Is there an address in Cornwall for a Record Office so i can write to see if they can check for a John Sheer.  They also had Honour bap 1808 Menheniot.   Robert Sheer and Eleanor Petters were married 2 April 1789 which you and deb and Toni* know.  I will get there in the end ;D it takes such a lot of time doesn`t it hunting about for them.  I looked for William and  Mary Sheers in 1851 but they weren`t on the Free cen, in 1841 he is in Civil Parish MAKER address Blindwell.   Cheerio for now.   gladys  :) :)
