I wonder if anyone can help solve one of our family mysteries!?!
Much of the research on this branch of our family was already done for me, and I thought I was just going to fill in a space.
My gggrandparents Nathan Diggle and Catherine Barnaby were married at Manchester Cathedral on February 22nd 1852. Nathan (23), was a dyer address 9 Barrow Street, Salford, father Thomas Diggle Dyer, and I know probably much of what there is to know about him and also their family.
Catherine, (also 23), of Park Street Salford, daughter of William Barnaby, labourer was born in Ireland. Neither said they had been married before. Witnesses Robert Skelton and Sarah Skelton were born in Cumbria and I know about them. Only Robert could write.
I thought I would be able to at least find Catharine before they married or find the family nearby on a census, but no such luck!
I thought Ireland might be difficult, but this is only a short time after a census, so I was hopeful they would be close by.
I'm beginning to wonder though if the Barnaby's were English. I've not found them, but every Barnaby i have found in England or Ireland, has been born in England.
Does anyone know this family or have any ideas? I've tried the GRO fiche and census on line, but of course I'm dependent on their indexing, and this area in 1851is in a bad way. I have the family on other censuses, mostly not far away, but not the Barnaby's.
Any contributions gratefully received!!
Best wishes to all
