Essex Pubs
« on: Monday 29 October 07 00:48 GMT (UK) »
All,
I believe I have every historical Pub for Essex, now listed. Correct me if I am wrong! This is Ian Hunters original site, with listings added for London, Suffolk & Kent.

Enjoy. Also, please, can you supply any further info?

Hi Kev

keep up the good work hun, have it saved to my favourites.

I used to work in the Swan in Wickford, loved that pub. and the best thing they ever did to the Castle in Wickford was knock it down it was a rough pub, always closed because it was forever being smashed up by the customers haha those were the good old days!

Hello Kath,
I am presuming Hun is a 'nice' comment. The Swan, at Wickford sounds lovely, as does the Castle. I must remember to add that to the site ...

Well,
I am born & bred in Essex, mostly Romford. I would not 'place Basildon down the league tables'. I am interested if anyone has information and pictures for any of the Pubs in Essex, that is not already available. See http://londonpublichouse.com/pubindex.shtml

Hi Kevan,

What a great site and really helpful to my research.  I'm researching the Banhams and found they ran The Queens Head in Lower Anchor Street for many many years - Would you happen to know when they gave it up??

I have heard family rumour that there were some Banhams who ran a pub but the wife drank more stock than they sold and they were ' asked to leave' then they set up a sweet shop where the same lady continued to drink and when worse for wear would hand out all the sweeties to the local kids LOL - great story - even if it may be just that.

Cheers
