1861 & 1871 census lookup please HORROCKS
« on: Friday 28 December 07 22:58 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Can anyone please find me Augusta Braham HORROCKS born about 1858 Oxford in the 1861 and 1871 census please.

According to the 1901 census she has a brother Henry F HORROCKS born about 1865 maybe in Essex?
 ;)
Thanks in advance,
Lilygirl.

Hi,

Thanks.
Looks like they moved around a bit.
Tricia would you mind posting them earlier if possible please??
Have just found out George's wife was Jane if that helps.

Thanks again

1861

This is a strange entry - Rev G  Horrocks has been entered and crossed out so I will try and transcribe as it is given on image

Merttle Cottage, Lyme Road, Sidbury, Devon

Revd G Horrocks Head Mar Curate for Sidbury, Annuitant
..........(no name given), wife
These first two entries are linked together with the words ' Absent from home'
Emma Jane Horrocks dau 3 British Subject
Augustam Braham Horrocks dau 2 British Subject
George son 1 British Subject
Tryphena Ebdon servant Unmarr 19 Domestic servant b Sidbury
Emley Carnell servant unmarr 16 Nurse b Sidbury

I presume from this that the servants didn't know where the children were born

Hi there Tricia,

Thanks for the 1861. Would you assume that it was the parents that were absent then??
Wonder where they got to?!
Maybe it was around the time they were looking at moving to Yorks?
Think I'll have to dig out the map.

I had George married to Jane Anne but she'd died by 1871 so have to find a death for her.

I have looked for the parents in 1861 and can only find one entry which may be them. Again it is a strange entry
and leaves more questions than answers.

I am postings in case it is them as I haven't found another match

1861

1 Lower Hall, Mellor Cheshire

Betty Jowett Head W 64 no occupation b Glossop Derbys
Elizabeth Jowett dau 30 no occupation b Glossop
Jonathan Jowett son unmar 29 Farmer and coalminer b Glossop
Lousia Marriott Granddau 8 b Glossop
Sarah Bennet servant 19 b Glossop
Jane Auga(?) Horrocks -( transcribed as Ann but doesn't look like Ann to me) visitor marr 26 b Glossop
George Horrocks visitor mar 30 Clerk b Preston Lancashire

RG9/ 2555 Folio 12 Page 20.

Very very odd especially as I have found a death for a Jane Augusta Horrocks born 1835 which was registered in Glossop in 1909 and haven't found her on any census

George is down as clerk which could be a mistake

Do any of those names mean anything to you?

Tricia :(

If Jane was born in Glossop could that be her mother she's with in 1861??
Just a thought?
