Norman Holman 1895-1977
« on: Tuesday 22 April 08 12:52 BST (UK) »
HI
How do i find out more about my relatives (great Uncles) life in Canada?

I have Norman Holman b. 11 July 1895 Penwartha House, Perranzabuloe Cornwall England
he was the son of Edwin Holman and Mary Jane Vinton
he emigrated to the US in 1913 aged 18
(I have [copies of] his  WW Draft registration cards)
he married Betty Unknown possibly Gerber from Camborne in Cornwall - i don't think they married in the UK
he worked for the Detroit Motor Factories (with his brother)
at some point he (& Betty) moved to Vancouver (so i've been told)
and he died in 1977
Norman and Betty didnt have children

i would like to fill in the time from when he moved to Canada
to 1977 when he died (and if possibel details of his marriage to Betty)

any ideas where to go what to look / ask for?

HI Toni,

Do you have Norman on the 1920 US Census?  I can't see him on the 1930, so perhaps he is in Canada by then  :-\

Have you seen his airline ticket in 1947?  He says he's going to live in Windsor, Ontario and that he lived in Detroit from 1918 to 1939.

On his wife, Bessie Holman's ticket, she has her sister Mrs. Doris Retallick, Camborne, Cornwall, 4 Carnation Street as her nearest relative.  She was born in Redruth.

no i have not seen his airline ticket - how do i get a copy of that?

if he lived in Detroit 1918-1939 persumably he married there too, how can i access Detroit marriage records?

Well, on her ticket though, where it asks if she has ever lived in the US, she has left it blank, so maybe they did marry in England??
