early look ups please pantry
« on: Wednesday 04 June 08 08:07 BST (UK) »
i am looking for two possible brothers who married 2 sisters
i have them in 81 reports both married to their wives.
they married Elizabeth and Maria Pantry sometimes spelt Pantrey.
they are Jesse and George Weddle. Jesse born Hawkhurst Kent c1839and George c1851 Ticehurst sussex.
both living in Hawkhurst with their respective families according to 1881 census in Hawkhurst, kent
cant find a birth on Free bmd for either of them . only one that corresponds is George and its in Belford up North somewhere. no Jesse so dont know if its short for something.

i know its not really sussex but with both them and their wives being moved between kent and sussex didnt know which one to go for.

any help much appreciated.

Hi
You need to look for them in earlier census records.  In 1851 the Weddle family are in Flimwell.
HO107 1639 F 90
George Weddell 30 ag lab B Hawkhurst
Elizabeth 34
Sarah 6
Elizabeth 4
Ellen 2
George 1 all b Ticehurst
then at HO107 1639 F 88
Robert Weddell Wid lodger 52 ag lab b Hawkhurst
Jesse 15 Lodger 15 ag lab b Hawkhurst
Head of Household is Wright.
This makes it look as if they may be uncle and nephew so I should check carefully.

I've had a look on the birth index on findmypast for George but strangely he is not under Weddell so either he wasn't registered or he is under another name.

Looks like Jesse is before 1837 according to age on 1851 census.  Unfortunately Hawkhurst is not on Hugh Wallis.

ok so they wernt brothers but more either unles and nephew or perhaps cousins. as it doesnt say brother of parent on census but just lodger. youd have thoght that the census reporter would have queeried that at the time.
i notice you say that the head of household is Wright. whats the whole report then as there is no Wright member there.

kas

cant afford certs sorry. if i had done that when i started it would have cost me thousands by now.  :)
