Hi Prue

I had Reunion 8 before - was very happy with it but I'm a sucker for an upgrade so forked out the (I think) $60 or so. The new features are here:

http://www.leisterpro.com/doc/version9/newfeatures/newfeatures.php

But to be honest if you're happy with Reunion 8 I'd say stick with it - I know I certainly don't use all of the features it offers!

I'm considering buying a Mac, but also the software that allows me to use PC programs on it. But I would consider using a Mac specific family tree program, because I'd like to use it on an Ipod Touch. I would think that would be ideal as a portable gadget to carry around all your family history needs in one place, program, files, photos and any other media. Does anyone do this?

Hi MarkyP - I haven't tried this yet - but Reunion 9 definitely has this facility - see link above - you can transfer your each person onto a 'pod card' - you've reminded me to give it a go so thanks!

My 2 Pence Worth.... I have just started researching my family tree and tried a couple of applications but have to say MacFamily Tree is really good. It has a few things that I found awkward but I guess as with any new piece of  software, its just getting used to it.

This app works well with iPhoto and other media. MobileMe account's work really well, produces an easy to use web version of your tree. I wouldn't say it's pleasing to the eye but a great reference tool without any hassle none-the-less.

Also there is an iPhone app that is compatible. I haven't used it as yet but the reviews aren't too bad. At least they 're a forward thinking company and keep updating the products.

Reunion 9 works very well on a MacBook (OSX 10.5) - it is user friendly and has lots of usable features.

At the moment I am waiting for Leisterpro (makers of Reunion) to complete their application for the iPod Touch and iPhone - then it will be possible to carry the whole family tree around in a handy and accessible form.

But please note that the PodCards that can be produced by Reunion 9 do not work with the iPod Touch or iPhone, only on the "older" iPods with screens - hence the wait for the new application.

There are apparently other applications available at the iTunes Store for the iPod Touch and iPhione that can be used to store your family tree info.

See, for example, the discussion at

The "Reunion" application is now available in the iTunes App store.

If you already have Reunion 9 you have to update to Reunion 9.08 (free on the Reinion website) and with the Reunion app the information in the Reunion on the computer can be downloaded onto your iPod Touch or iPhone.

It works brilliantly

Hi

Presumably the answer that you found is that you can import a GEDCOM file into Reunion. I have never actually imported a GEDCOM file, but I imagine it would be quite easy - I started from scratch with Reunion and all operations that I have done so far have been easy.
